Multiplayer: Match warm-up
Video game concept
At the start of each match there's a short period (usually 30 or 60 seconds) during which nothing happens or players are allowed to explore the map or play as normal but with no impact to winning the match (everything is reset when the warm-up ends).

If nothing can be done during the warm-up, then it's likely there so all players can have reasonable time to finish loading the map/game before the game starts. Map exploration may be simply the same but with more interactive variety, and the fully playable warm-up period may be for actual warm-up or to make the warm-up portion more interesting.
