No campaign

Video game concept

Lacks story/campaign mode or similar where player needs to complete series of levels/maps, missions, or similar.

Alternate name: No story mode

The first video game about No campaign was released in 1988.

Microprose, Mojang and Linden Research has published most of these games

There's no (main) story/campaign to follow. Mostly of interest for game genres that normally do have such.

Excessive simulation games may lack an integral story/campaign as well.

4X strategy, biological/social simulation, and some others lack a story/campaign simply because it usually works against the game genre (because they're sort of like quasi-sandbox games).

Lack of a campaign/story mode does not necessarily mean there's complete lack of story however, as it can be delivered in small scenarios scattered about.
