For example, if you have a healing potion that restores 500 health and you have maximum health of 100, you'd use only fifth of that potion at any given time you use it, thus allowing you to use it 5 or more times before it runs empty, completely depending when you use it, so it would be 10 uses if you used it only when you're missing 50 health and so forth.
