Passage on demand

Other (objects, etc.) concept

A passage, area, or similar forms around you as needed (and often disappearing as you move away from it). Commonly a passage over a chasm.

Name variations: Scenery on demand, Scenery as you go

The first video game about Passage on demand was released on September 1990.

Deep Silver, Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. Interactive has published most of these games

Commonly a gimmick in some select locations, in oldest works this has likely worked by requiring a step of faith into nothingess (the passage forms only at the very instant it is needed, not before). In more modern works the passages are usually formed slightly ahead of you, allowing you to see where it leads and be somewhat sure of its existence.
