Plankalkül was the worlds first complete high-level computer language invented by Konrad Zuse. Originally written in 2D!

When first published in 1948, few people paid any attention since it was know that computers only understood machine code. A more extensive version was published in 1972 and the first compiler attempt was made in 1975. Superplan and Klammerausdrücke are based on Plankalkül. ALGOL 58 was influenced by Plankalkül but ALGOL 58's designers did not knowledge it. A full compiler would not be implemented until 1998. Another compiler was created in 2000
