Polyplopic enemies

Creatures theme

Includes enemies that create multiple false images (illusory clones, doppelgängers, holograms, or such) of themselves and the player must somehow identify the real one to defeat them.

Alternate names: Illusion cloners
Name variations: doppelganger enemies, mirror enemies

The first video game about Polyplopic enemies was released in 1998.

Blizzard Entertainment, Monolith Productions and Electronic Arts has published most of these games

This is NOT for enemies that outright clone themselves where player Must defeat all the clones to truly defeat the opponent.

The tag name comes from polyplopia, seeing something as multiple, and alludes that these creatures cause it on the player character. More commonly known by its milder variety of diplopia (double vision).

Fairly commonly known as mirror image spell or similar which creates number of false images of the original.
