Protection complex
Culture concept
Deals with obsessive desire to protect others (those dear to the character, those who can't defend themselves, or even everyone). Often the protagonist has this, but can include any major character.

If this extends to gameplay itself and not just the plot, see protect tag.
Extremely common in Japanese fiction but appears quite often elsewhere too to not be exclusive to Japan.
Usually big brother, big sister, or somewhat more rarely a parent is the one who does this. If this goes too far, the character is blamed of being overprotective in negative (rather than fond) manner.
Makes sense in case of close family, but when you break laws, ignore morals, endanger others for sake of the ones you care for, fight monsters, armies, forces of nature, and so forth to do it, something is not quite normal or right.
