Most commonly seen in sci-fi space flight games where the player manages energy distribution between various spacecraft systems (usually propulsion, shields and weapons). Also commonly any excess energy to a system is essentially "lost" which gives more reason to actually micromanage it, though since the energy equally commonly limitless there's no real hurry in doing this.
