Role-play

Video game concept

Role-play is a major element; players assume roles of others and creating stories, rather than acting out pre-scripted ones. Player are also expected to participate in this activity or at least maintain a believable front for not participating.

Alternate name: Enforced role-play

This tag is to combat how easily games become labelled as RPGs even though they have only the slightest notion of role-playing, possibly none at all, simply something that used to appear only in RP videogames back in the 1980s (nowadays these are called RPG elements).

In essence, role-playing has become a vague term for the masses, usually confused with what actors do when they do their part in a play, a movie, or such instead of playing out a character in a dynamically woven tale.
