In modern times the blue rose has come to symbolize tampering with nature and genetic engineering specifically.
Note that blue roses do not occur naturally but have been genetically engineered or otherwise artificially produced. Ironically, the process of genetic tampering revealed that roses do have the capability of naturally producing blue pigment. Ironically this quality still can not be manipulated naturally.
If literally present, the Roses tag also applies.
If only symbolically present, do not apply the roses tag.
