If not funny, it is probably mean and mean-spirited. Satire is ideally constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon. Irony and/or sarcasm are often featured. Also often included are
parody, burlesque, exaggeration, juxtaposition, comparison, analogy, and double entendre. A common theme is exultation and/or normalization, within the work, of the very elements the author intends to ridicule; relying on the intelligence of the audience's to recognize the exulted faults (akin to reverse-physiology).
