Casting a spell wipes out the caster's memory of how to cast it again, forcing them to memorize the process over and over again.

This is extremely unrealistic, especially when you can memorize the same spell a number of times. Like 3 copies of basic fireball spell, each copy forgotten individually with casting.
Implies the magic user carries a spellbook with them from which they can memorize the spells again. Why they do not recite the spells from the book at times or memorize them during breaks of action in general is unknown.
This is generally used instead of a pool of energy the spellcaster taps into.
