Ensoniq made musical instruments, samplers, synthesizers, and computer audio chips (Apple IIgs, Atari Panther, Gravis Ultrasound). They also made PCI and ISA sound cards that were interchangeable at a time when other manufactures could not quite make PCI sound cards work with DOS games that were expecting only ISA sound cards. Creative Labs was especially annoyed at this and bought Ensoniq.
