MSound was not an ordinary resistor ladder Covox Speech Thing clone. It also had a TMS320 DSP chip. It was capable of 16-bit 48khz quadraphonic output, PCM samples could be loaded, and samples could be synthesized. Despite being a top quality option for laptops and other systems without expansion slots, it did not see widespread adoption.
