In tabletop role-playing, tabletop strategy, pen-and-paper RPG, pen-and-paper strategy players describe their characters' actions through speech. Game boards, grids, maps, tokens and/or miniature models often serve as visual aids to track of characters, enemies, and resources. Dice may be used to create some randomness to actions and their effectiveness. Withn a formal set of rules, there is a wide margin for improvising. The Dungeons and Dragons series is one of the most famous examples of a pen-and-paper RPG.
