Though officially extinct. Evidence suggests a remnant population might exist in Turkey. The accepted theory is that Caspians and Siberians have interbreed occasionally until the late 1800s. At which time hunting and civilization separated their ranges from one another. The idea of introducing Siberian Tigers to the area and then other former ranges has been investigated. If the were to interbreed with the supposed remnant, the slight genetic uniqueness of the Caspians could be passed to generations and the genetically Siberian offspring could be relocated to their former range also. Thus helping to restore both species.
