In videogames tracers are usually a visual gimmick that're visible even in broad daylight with all ammunition types regardless if they're specifically tracers or not.

Generally any objects/tools that produces a lingering trail for a purpose.

Artillery games tend to have tracers as separate ammo that produce a lingering trace that the player can see for quite a while afterwards.
