This is actually a videogame concept as well, as this can occur without there being a room of any kind. The player is just somehow trapped in a very limited area by something, ranging from auto-locking doors to force fields.

The purpose of this is to slow down the player's progress in the game, disallowing them the option of running away, and generally artificially increasing the time required to play the game through.

Boss battles and similar should be ignored as those usually are limited to single location for various reasons (mainly the bit about it being a boss battle).

Literal cases do NOT count. This is for being trapped in a room or some other somewhat small area, not visiting a room with traps (the alt title should make that bit clear).
