Some Amstrad computers, including their PC-compatibles, used embedded video hardware extremely similar to CGA but with added features.

Most games requiring CGA worked fine on Amstrad video hardware. Additionally, it had fully documented 320x200x16 and 640x200s16 modes that some games specifically supported. It was also similar to Tandy's video hardware that extended the CGA standard. However, the memory map was very different between Tandy and Amstrad, so while a game could use precisely the same visuals for both hardwares, separate drivers within the game needed to be used for each graphics mode.
