Hidden object
A type of puzzle games where the aim is to find some hidden object, often several, which are used to solve a puzzle.
Usually the way forward is obvious, but there's something barring the way. The protagonist - or the game if it's so impersonal - may comment on what's needed, and you're supposed to find it from among all the junk.

If the game lacks a story, this may be just finding specific symbols or items from a pile of others with no particular reason. Effectively these often strain more your perceptiveness than challenge you intellectually like most other puzzles do.

Jigsaw puzzles are a bit advanced form of this actually, you can see what you need to accomplish, but finding the right pieces (the hidden objects) from the pile of all the other pieces is the most challenging part.
