| Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh | Taito | 1987 | A long period of time passed..... and the dimension-controlling force "DOH" has again come back to life. Occupying the huge spaceship "XORG", it has entered our universe from a different dimension. "MIXTEC", Arkanoid type spaceship, has launched the craft "VAUS 2" to make a preemptive attack on "XORG".......***In this sequel to Arkanoid, the player is once again fighting against Doh, a alien entity that looks a lot like an Easter Island head. Arkanoid was a Breakout-style game where the player had to destroy bricks by bouncing a ball off of a pod that was under player control. The ball would then bounce to the top of the screen, hopefully breaking the blocks. The big difference between Arkanoid and Breakout was the inclusion of power-ups. When a brick is destroyed there is a chance that a small pod will fall to the bottom of the screen. This pod, if catched by the player, will alter the pod or the ball, usually benificially. The pod might get bigger, or the ball might split into three balls. In Arkanoid 2 the power-ups were increased, the most impressive being one that caused the ball to split into what appeared to be fifty other balls, all flying around the screen. This is about as far as the changes went. Still, it was fun, since the gameplay that made the original great was still intact. | Arcade | labelimagesubject |
