Aliens: A Comic Book Adventure Mindscape (Cryo Interactive)1995You play Lt. Col. Hericksen, an ex-colonial marine who is now the commander of a three-man terraforming team. Your objective is to travel to remote outpost B54-C in order to find the cause of a distress call your vessel received.

Gameplay is a point-and-click adventure with limited, inventory-based puzzles. Grid-based combat is present as well. The player is given what amounts to timed objectives throughout the game, and must uncover the truth about the mysterious outpost's history before the colony's sudden destruction.

The game functions as a sequel to Dark Horse Comic's Aliens: Labyrinth, and follows up on characters and events from the end of that series.***
[84]***A very unusual point&click adventure where events continue spiraling out of control regardless of your activity (like that incoming meteor shower right at the start of the game) and there's turn&grid-based combat even.

Primarily based on some Dark Horse Aliens comics instead of the original movies.***Latest version: 1.0.3 (as of 1996-03?)***Comes on 2 CDs.

Blue Dragon  Microsoft Game Studios (Mistwalker;Artoon)2006Turned into a long anime series and at least two mangas.***The first of two epic RPG projects for Microsoft by Mistwalker, Blue Dragon is created by the studio founded by Square-Enix's Hironobu Sakaguchi. Featuring characters by designer Akira Toriyama, and telling the story of a young boy named Shu who has special adventure with his two friends and a mythical blue dragon.***Blue Dragon is an epic role-playing game (RPG) centered on a young boy named Shu and several of his friends. These unlikely heroes possess miraculous strength and magical power to control phantom shadows that mirror the actions of their masters.

Shu and company must use their shadows as weapons as they battle the evil Nene and an antiquated human race of people who command a magical power thought to have perished long ago. Shu and friends must wield their skills to save their world from impending doom.

Encountering various people on a planet with numerous ancient ruins, the characters and their shadows travel through a world full of mysteries and illusions, where the slightest touch can cause reactions of unparalleled magnitude.

As their quest progresses, warriors can create original attack methods by using several types of Shadow Change, including Sword, Assassin and Power Magic. Players can also choose to focus their hero on certain areas of expertise; as they fight, shadows will level up and gain new abilities associated with the job being done. Once gained, abilities remain available to use when needed.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter  Capcom;CE Europe (Capcom)2002The story and location (the world) are unrelated to earlier BoF games, gameplay also was revised almost completely. Besides using some very recognizable parts of the series (Ryu, Nina, transformation into a "dragon", etc.), the reason for labeling this game under BoF is a marketing mystery. If they had bothered to completely cut ties with BoF, the experimental nature of the game would've likely been received much better instead of being targeted by BoF fans with scorn. The greatest flaw of the game to me is the complete lack of voice overs which is somewhat unusual for games this "new".***difficulty-single - despite this, every time your whole party dies the game gets easier as current party XP and gained skills are transferred back to the point when you made the save. This can be omitted, though.
midas' touch - Ryu's dash and D-dive abilities.

bioroids - the genics.
pigmen - duke genics
minotaurs - deathcow genics
blobs - the various goo creatures
insectoids - there's a variety, though most commonly you see the ant-like midget humanoids who work in the fairy colony.

minigames - the fairy colony management. It's much more useful and time consuming than it might sound based on it being a minigame.

performance issues - with 3+ enemies and placing one or more magical wards (especially electrical) the camera movement and movement circle appearance becomes stuttery.

--- notes for future
gar genics (garsniper, garpike) have the head of a seahorse***They live in another time, another place. A labyrinth-like world devoid of all light; where civilization has been forced to live underground for generations. Man has no recollection of how life once was. Yet a Ranger named Ryu is determined to discover the world above and begins an adventure to make his way to the surface. Can he lead his people back to freedom?

* For the first time on PlayStation 2 comes a brand new Breath of Fire instalment.
* Visually stunning cel-shaded subterranean world settings.
* Revolutionary new battle system that allows players to set up traps and decoys before going into battle.
* 3-D underground worlds evolve based on your playing style for a different gameplay experience each time.
* Encounter countless challenges, battles and adventures in this action-packed RPG adventure.
[Box blurb]***EAN-13:
5055060921005
Product ID:
SLES-51496
***Reach for the Sky
It's an epic quest of magical proportions. You live in another time, another place, devoid of all light sources. You are now part of the underground world. Foil your menacing enemies to reach your ultimate mission. Only you can discover the way out of the labyrinth-like dungeon that envelops you and your friends. Escape your underground captors and you'll reach the world of the living. Breath of Fire V is the first of the series to appear on the PS2, and offers visually stunning cel-shaded subterranean worldsettings and an entirely new real-time/ turn-based battle system. Breath of Fire V will keep you impressed for a long, long time!***I've heard almost nothing but bad things about this game, probably because it's quite different from its predecessors, but I quite liked it. The most notable change from previous Breath of Fire titles it the new battle system, which plays more like a strategy RPG similar to Arc the Lad. Also, Dragon Quarter is more like a giant dungeon crawler instead of a traditional Japanese RPG with an overworld to explore. This game is a lot more challenging than its predecessors and if you're upto the challenge, I think you'd find the game quite entertaining (and you can pick it up for dirt cheap online!).

7 de 10***The lord of insanity, Cthulhu was all set to plunge the world into insanity and destruction when his powers were sealed by a mysterious sorcerer. The only way for him to break the curse is to become a true hero. Save the world to destroy it in an epic parody RPG journey of redemption, romance, and insanity!

Key features:
* Old school RPG style mixed with modern design sensibilities!
* Inflict insanity upon your opponents for fun and profit!
* 6-10 hour quest with unlockable game modes & difficulty levels for increased replay value.

Dark Scavenger Psydra Games2012Simple but powerful interactive story with a turn-based combat in it.

Pros:
-Rewards thinking about your actions and punish stupidity.
-Interesting setting.
-Constant absurd humor.
-Easy to understand weapon-item-ally combat system, but becomes more and more complex with time (or more precisely, with loot)
-Progress system based in a semirandom loot-crafting system: loot itself can be missed and you normally have three different options for each loot item: you can guess its final function but you never know precisely its way of working.

Cons:
-Very simple animation for combats: will improve showing allies, items or weapons being summoned/used.
-Too heavily based in a two step cycle of obtaining loot/fighting, when its characters will do for more complex conversations.

8 of 10***Dark Scavenger is an adventure game that combines strategic turn-based combat with unique point-and-click mechanics.

Filling the role of a powerful space traveler, you find yourself stranded on a mysterious planet in the company of three eccentric, yet resourceful aliens. As you desperately seek a way to repair your ship, a massive conflict unfolds around you involving warring factions and a sinister force that threatens to destroy them all.

Will you adopt the problems of this world as your own or will you just save yourself?

* Twisted dark humor and dozens of quirky characters!
* Multiple ways to approach each new encounter ensures a different experience every playthrough.
* Forge over one hundred weapons and items from loot discovered on your journey!
* Epic boss battles and tons of secrets!
