Hero Generations Heart Shaped Games2015Hero Generations is a quick-playing turn-based strategy game that takes inspiration from rogue-likes, 4X strategy, and independent art games. It has been described as the offspring of Sid Meier’s Civilization, Jason Rohrer’s Passage, and The Legend of Zelda.

You play a rapidly aging hero that explores a procedurally generated world in search of fame and a mate to settle down with before you die. After your life ends, you continue on adventuring as your child. Depending upon your choices, your child will be either more fit to take on the world, or hobbled by your poor decisions.

Life took some surprising turns for me during Hero Generations' original development, and I was forced to put the game on the shelf in order to spend time with my then-newborn son and focus on other projects that could pay the bills. But with your backing, I can revive the game, finish the design and programming work, team up with amazing artist Dominic Sodano and musician Andrew Riley, and release it to the world as a standalone downloadable game for PC, Mac, and Linux platforms.***Meaning: The game system was built from the ground up to be an exploration of the themes of death, legacy, family, love, and more. The experience of playing the game I hope will be a surprising and thought-provoking experience, as well as fun. I'll be posting more details on the inspiration and design philosophy behind this in future backer updates.***Direct an aging protagonist with limited time to live their life. They can't do everything, they may not even meet any of their goals in life. Imperative to continuing the game is having children. Find a sole mate, have a romance, fall in love, get married, have children. Or just get it done. Otherwise the game ends when you the protagonist dies. Children will benefit or suffer from the choices made be their ancestors. They also inherit traits from parents. When the protagonist dies, one of the children become the new protagonist and pursue different goals or carry on the legacy of an ancestor. So, choose wisely how to live life. Be famous, be simple, be rich, be strong,, conquer the world, rule the kingdom, rule your home, build a castle, build a farm, build a shack, marry royalty, marry a warrior, or marry an ogre. You have about 5 real world minutes until the next generation. Building families and structures influences towns and neighboring towns. This will affect future generations and effect what cultures are available to choose from and and what traits are available to add to the family line. Craft familys, craft towns, craft cultures.

Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues  Portalarium2018The game includes an offline mode. A classic Ultima style story by Tracy Hickman (no involvement by EA). 5 guaranteed episodes (there probably be more eventually)

Online modes are "open", "friends", and interestingly, "solo". It seems one can experience the online world version populated only by AI players and opponents or with only a select group of friends (together or verses, it would seem).

It seems to be shaping up to be a [s]direct competitor[/s] superior replacement to Ultima Online, period[s]by offering all the UO features plus many more[/s]. Also, I've been playing beta content and seeing some content that seems vaguely familiar. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that among the vast amount of worlds and content a small subset of it is [game=#38049]Ultima IX[/game] done right.
