Tunnel Hunt | Atari;Centuri (Atari) | 1979 | labelimageminimize | |
Tempest | Atari | 1981 | First ever game with colour vector graphics. Features a selection of monsters, in tubes, with a frenetic killing requirement. Unique in terms of gameplay, and also (probably) the first game in which you got to choose the starting difficulty level. Typical of the period, yet nevertheless outstanding as an arcade game. | labelimageminimize |

Gyruss | Konami;Centuri (Konami) | 1983 | I never actually played Gyruss in the arcades, but I did get a chance to experience it on the Konami Aracade Classics disk for PSX. It's easily my favorite game on the collection, and it's amazingly stood the test of time well! Basically, it's a faster Galaga clone, with enemies diving in and out of the middle of the screen rather than from the top. Gyruss is really tough, really fast, and has excellent music set to the tune of Bach's "Toccata and Fugue". [Spiez] | labelimageminimize |
S.T.U.N. Runner | Atari | 1989 | [42]*** [85]*** [69]***One of the first 3D flat polygon space games. It seems to be an major update of the Tempest design. | labelimageminimize |
