Unlike previous Football Manager games there is no requirement to deal with anything other than team tactics, positioning and individual player management. What makes this game uniquely brilliant is the fact that you now have total control of each player in terms of instructing him on things like passing forwards, backwards, long kicks, short kicks etc. Another major factor is morale. This subtley affects your teams performance. So what you say to the newspaper press is important. If the reporters believe and support what you say, they will print positive information about your team and it will boost their morale. You can also affect your team's morale by what you say to them before and halfway through a game.

Bundesliga Manager Professional	Software 2000 (Kron Software)	1991	In 1993 they released an updated version of this game, titled "Bundesliga Manager Professional 2.0", which had only very few changes (e.g. more difficulty levels, updated teams etc.). The gameplay and graphics are the same. So the "2.0" just refers to the version-number and doesn't mean that this is a "new" game!

Goal	Wizard Games (New Era Software)	1991	I played this game to pieces as a kid. Despite the fact that the players are just ASCII characters running around a 2D pitch, the game easily has you hooked and cheering for your team like crazy. You take on the role of manager of a national football team, and your task is to pick your team, make tactical decisions, and of course do as well as possible in order to encourage the growth of football talent in your country. The game operates on a 4 year cycle, where year 1 is the qualification stage for your continental tournament, year 2 is the actual continental tournament. Year 3 and 4 are about the World Cup instead. The registered version of the game also came with an editor tool which allowed you to edit teams and player names. As far as I remember, these were fairly accurate for its time, at least for the bigger teams. However, I also remember some names that were obviously picked from other settings - politicians and other famous people would sometimes be footballers in this game. I used to own the game back in the day. Back when I registered it, I got it on a 5.25" floppy disk. As I loved it so much, I tried to preserve it across computers, and I know I had a regular floppy disk with it as well. Sadly I don't know where my disks are anymore, as I haven't had a floppy drive for a few years either. There might be a few things I miss from my early days as a computer user, and this game is certainly top of the list. It would mean so much to me to be able to play it again - and I mean this, rather than the newer versions Goal 2 and Goal 94, which I never got into in the same way. If anyone still has it, I would appreciate hearing from you. And of course, if you have the chance to play this game, don't miss it - you could be hooked before you even know it.
