APL/S (A version of APL) was included the default programming language included with the system. BASIC for the system was announced but remains vaporware.

Some people have noted, you could buy the base system and a joystick and own the equivalent of a gaming console. OR, you could buy the base system and a tape cassette drive and own the equivalent of a home computer.

*Umtech created a unique graphics engine based on binary-color sprites; they patented it. Up to 16 sprites can be displayed on a 256x512 grid. Each sprite can be up to 248x256 pixels in size and be any one of 16 colors with 4 levels on intensity independently of other sprites (16 simultaneous colors on screen). Each sprite can be doubled in horizontal and/or vertical size (scaling). Sprites can be listed by priority so they are draw on top or underneath each other (So, to make, for example, a 4 color sprite, 4 sprites of different color can be stacked in the same position). Both the graphics mode and text mode of the VB used only sprites to create an image. All this was rendered to the final 400x160 resolution with only 16 simultaneous colors.
