About Namco Museum Vol. 1

2006-08-14 (updated 2012-05-12)
The Namco Museum CDs are designed to allow older gamers to revisit some old friends, while affording the younger crowd the chance to experience what Golden Age arcade gaming was like. These are the actual arcade ROMs, emulated, of Namco's rich arcade legacy. Also included are vintage print ads, motherboard schematics, and assorted game-related paraphenalia, which you can view in a Doom-style 3D 'museum' environment. Volume 1 features seven games: Pac-Man, Galaga, Pole Position, Rally-X (and its 'advanced' model, New Rally-X), Bosconian, and Toy Pop. Note that all these games were written by Namco, although many were released in America under other distributors - Pole Position, for instance, was put out by Atari, while Bally Midway distributed Pac-Man, Galaga, and Rally-X. Although the emulation is not quite as good as, say, MAME, this CD is still worth the money for the slow-but-fun 'museum' interface - and, unlike MAME, there are no moral issues about ROM legality here!
