SimCity is the first majorly popular simulation game, building on precursors such as Populous. The player must take control of a city or build his own from scratch, balancing new construction while funding public services to keep citizens happy. A number of natural disasters, including floods, earthquakes, and radioactive monster attacks(!), can throw a wrench into the works. Upon its release on the SNES, a whole new segment of gamers was exposed to its complex yet addicting gameplay that PC gamers were already hooked on. A few changes were made for the console port, such as the addition of gifts from the community, changing seasons, new scenarios, and an advisor known as Dr. Wright.
