Kirby's Avalanche  Banpresto;Compile;Hal (Nintendo)1995Everyone's favorite round, pink hero takes a break from swallowing his enemies to put your brain to work in this fast-paced puzzle game. Players take control of Kirby and match wits with well-known enemies from the Kirby series (including his arch rival, King Dedede) in an effort to win the First Annual Dream Land Avalanche Competition. The simple-but-addictive game play revolves around brightly colored blobs and boulders. When the right amount of matching blobs are stacked, they explode and rain down on your opponent's field of play. Repeat this until your screen is clear to move on to the next round. But be careful—the farther you advance, the faster the blobs fall and the smarter the opponents get. Are you good enough to help Kirby become the avalanche king?***Although it is practically a port of "Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine," this is still the best puzzle game around.

Aleste  Compile1988An excellent shooting game by Compile. Aleste was released for various platforms, but the MSX version is the original one. A great variety of levels, great graphics and great music. Beware, though, as this is not an easy game. MSX2labelimageminimize
Aleste 2  Compile1989There's little doubt about it: this is probably one of the best 2D shoot 'm up games that was ever released. This game is very well balanced in every way. There are eight different levels, many bosses, a beautiful intro sequence and there's a demo after finishing the first four levels as well. This is a game you really have to play. Aleste Gaiden  Compile1989This game wasn't released as a stand-alone game, but it was published on Compile's Disc Station Special 4 (Autumn Edition). It's a small game, consisting of only five stages, but yet it's a very good game. This is a special part of the Aleste series and is therefore also known as 'Aleste Special'. An original shoot 'm up game, in which you don't operate a space craft, but a ninja robot. Therefore, you can not simply fly over the scenery, but you have to watch your step. MSX2labelimageminimize

Golvellius 2  Compile1988This sequel to the Compile classic Golvellius was released only for MSX2. It's a worthy sequel. The game itself looks a lot like Golvellius 1, but it has much better graphics and music and the storyline is much more detailed than the one of its predecessor. The main game is an action RPG in birdsview style and the caves are both horizontal (platform) and vertical scrolling ones. The game features many items to be found, mysteries to be solved and monsters to be defeated. There's a total of eight boss monsters. This really is a great game. MSX2minimizeimageminimize

Puyo Puyo Tsuu  Compile1994The object of this head-to-head puzzle game is to clear your grid of falling patterns called puyos by forming chains of four or more same-colored puyos in a straight line or one of several geometric patterns. What makes this a challenging two-player contest is the fact that when you clear a chain of puyos from your grid, it drops a random piece of filler onto your opponent's grid. The more puyos you clear, the more you fill your opponent's grid, and if you can clutter up his grid enough to fill it to the top, you've won the game. An intriguing back story makes this an amusing experience for one or two players.***Kick ass 1 on 1 puzzle game.
