Arkanoid | Taito | 1986 | The era and time of this story is unknown. After the mothership Arkanoid was destroyed, a craft, "Vaus", scrambled away from it, only to be trapped in space warped by someone.***First released in the arcades, Arkanoid is a successfull reinterpretation of Atari's classic [game=#261]Breakout[/game] game. Arkanoid keeps the simplicity of Breakout and adds a few extras like lasers, expanded paddle, multi balls etc. As for NES Breakout-clones, Arkanoid is one of the better ones. I actually liked it a bit more than Konami's [game=#178997]Nazo no Kabe: Block Kuzushi[/game] due to its more classic and fairer level design. The NES Arkanoid came with a special paddle controller, which significantly enhances controls. Playing Arkanoid with the standard controller is possible but quite difficult.***NES-AR-USA Came packaged with a paddle controller. | NES | labelimagesubject |
Arkanoid DS | Taito | 2008 | Prepare for classic block-breaking action with a new twist in Arkanoid DS. Originally an arcade hit, Arkanoid is reborn on DS with Touch Screen control, stacks of colourful levels and a distinctive new style.*** [100]*** [12] | Nintendo DS | labelimagesubject |
Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh | Taito | 1987 | A long period of time passed..... and the dimension-controlling force "DOH" has again come back to life. Occupying the huge spaceship "XORG", it has entered our universe from a different dimension. "MIXTEC", Arkanoid type spaceship, has launched the craft "VAUS 2" to make a preemptive attack on "XORG".......***In this sequel to Arkanoid, the player is once again fighting against Doh, a alien entity that looks a lot like an Easter Island head. Arkanoid was a Breakout-style game where the player had to destroy bricks by bouncing a ball off of a pod that was under player control. The ball would then bounce to the top of the screen, hopefully breaking the blocks. The big difference between Arkanoid and Breakout was the inclusion of power-ups. When a brick is destroyed there is a chance that a small pod will fall to the bottom of the screen. This pod, if catched by the player, will alter the pod or the ball, usually benificially. The pod might get bigger, or the ball might split into three balls. In Arkanoid 2 the power-ups were increased, the most impressive being one that caused the ball to split into what appeared to be fifty other balls, all flying around the screen. This is about as far as the changes went. Still, it was fun, since the gameplay that made the original great was still intact. | Arcade | labelimagesubject |
Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh | Nidecom Soft;Taito | 1988 | A splendid version of the classic Break Out game. Probably Arkanoid itself can be called classic as well. Arkanoid II: Revenge of Doh | Taito | 1988 | I question whether this was released for the Apple II series. After some research I must assume that every reference to an Apple II version refers to the Apple II/GS version. | Apple II E | labelminimizeminimize |

It is largely similar to its predecessor Arkanoid: Doh It Again as it has the same power-ups (plus the Giga-Ball) and board size. Some of the level designs have even been reused. The game has 50 levels, and the theme changes every 9 levels. Unlike past games, it doesn't have any boss battles. [Moby Games]*** [27] | Arcade | labelimagesubject |

Arkanoid: Doh it Again | Taito | 1997 | [media=youtube]https://youtu.be/xJxFsSBkz2w[/media]***For years, Commander Therle and his people have been searching for a new world to call home. Each time they get close, their enemy, Doh, pushes away Therle's ships. Recently, a sensor scan detected new terra-class planets. Therle sent scout ships to check them out, but Doh once again scattered his Blocks across the solar systems to stop the ships. Before the scout ships can reach the planets, they must destroy the Blocks.*** [29]*** [27]***The best Arkanoid game, to my mind, but also the easiest. Just the bosses are difficult to beat. | SNES | labelimagesubject |
Ashita no Joe | Taito (Wave Corp) | 1990 | Success Joe, known in Japan as "Ashita no Joe", is an arcade game by Wave Corp that was released a year before the better-known Ashita no Joe Densetsu for the Neo Geo. Attack | Exidy (Exidy;Taito) | 1977 | Attack is a 2-player asymmetrical duel type game with one player taking the role of destroyer, and the other the role of airplane. The destroyer is bound to the sea at the bottom of the screen, can move left and right, and fire diagonally. The airplane is more maneuverable and capable of flying in eight directions, but can only fire forward. Either player will score one point when destroying the other player, and the destroyed player will respawn from either the right or left side of the screen. The machine allows the operator to select from multiple time limits per credit. | Arcade | labelimagesubject |
Attack | Taito | 1976 | Attack is a 2-player competitive shooting gallery. Both players have a mounted machinegun with swivel aiming. Their goal is to destroy as many passing trucks (worth 10 points each) as possible within the 90 seconds of one credit. If either player scores 300 points an additional 90 seconds of playtime will be added. Trucks can drive onto the screen from both sides of the screen, and trucks farther away are smaller and harder to hit. This is possibly the very first video game to employ parallax scrolling, where layers of the playfield scroll by at different distances and speeds. The guns were nicely detailed and were a precursor to the types of games that are seen in modern arcade games. This was also the first instance where Taito placed the monitor in the bottom of the cabinet and by using an angled mirror, created an illusion of depth. | Arcade | labelimagesubject |
Attack U.F.O. | Taito | 1974 | Attack UFO was produced by Taito in 1974. Attack UFO is a shooting game in which the player(s) must try to shoot down a UFO using guided missiles fired from the bottom of the screen which are controlled with joysticks. A black and white game with UFOs. | Arcade | labelimagesubject |
Avenger | Taito (Taito;Electra Games) | 1976 | It was a clone of Avenger 1975. Taito was taken to court by Electra, but they agreed to market it. It has small hardware differences, according to analysis of specialized pages. In terms of gameplay, Taito's control turned out to be smoother and more controllable.***Avenger is a top-down, scrolling shoot 'em up in which the player controls a fighter jet and must shoot down incoming enemy fighters. The player flies forward and can move the jet with a joystick. The enemies enter the screen from the top along with a scrolling layer of clouds. The player has an afterburner button to increase speed. Depending on the amount of enemies shot down the player receives a rating (crop duster, student pilot, ace or avenger) and bonus play time is awarded. | Arcade | labelimagesubject |
