9.03m Space Budgie2013A tribute to the victims of the tsunami caused by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake in Japan, and inspired by reports of debris being washed ashore on the U.S. West Coast, months after the disaster struck. While exploring Baker Beach in San Francisco, silhouettes of people vanish when they are approached, and turn into personal items washed ashore. It is an attempt to remind people that, behind the death tolls and the countless objects, there are personal stories, memories and tragedies. All proceeds from the game's sales were donated to charities helping victims of natural disasters. Windowslabelimagesubject

Battleship SimoneSystems Software1991Classic Battleship with a twist: before the main game begins, both the player and his computer opponent get the opportunity to place eight sea mines. If a ship is placed over a grid cell which was mined by the other side, they score an immediate hit and get the additional advantage of already knowing the position of one of the enemy ships. Both the player and the computer pick players from a database to form a team and those teams will play against each other. The results of the matches are based on random numbers and batting averages from the database. Each event during the match is printed by the computer, letting the player know who hit the ball, when a base is stolen, a ball is caught, the pitcher hit the batter, etc. The only commands available to the player are cheats to force a hit or miss, or to request a postion of all the runners. Breakout Apple Computer1977An implementation of the ball-and-paddle game, programmed by Steve Wozniak, creator of the Apple II computer. Wozniak was also involved in the engineering of the [game=261]arcade original[/game] for [company=Atari]Atari[/company]. He used Breakout as a demonstration for his new computer, and to determine some of the features it should have.

As in the original, players have to break out bricks from a multi-layer wall by bouncing a ball against it. They use the rotary knob on the Apple II's game controller to move a paddle, in order to keep the ball from leaving the game area, and ricochet it back towards the wall. Compared to the arcade original, the wall is on the right hand side instead of at the top, to account for the horizontal screen orientation. The wall consists of 8 layers of 20 bricks each, with each brick earning the player a number of points according to the layer it was in. The player is given 5 balls to try and reach the maximum score of 720. When the board is clear, the game ends. If unable to clear the whole board, the player is given a ranking according to the score they achieved.

The game was distributed as Integer BASIC source code for the Apple II's built-in interpreter, on a demonstration cassette supplied with early systems. It allows players to customize the game by asking for their name, and letting them change the color palette. Speaker beeps of different pitches give audio feedback on what the ball is hitting.***[media=youtube]bQqThqkzC8c[/media]

[27]***We all know the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, however, not many roads allow you to put this principle into practice. For those of you frustrated by this seemingly illogical fact of life, Sega happily introduces Crazy Taxi, a game where the definition of "road" no longer specifically applies just to those surfaces covered by asphalt and concrete. "The object of Crazy Taxi is to get your passenger to his or her destination as quickly as possible," explained Sega’s Director of Sales & Marketing Pete Gustafson. "To do so, you might find you’ll have to bend a few rules of the road." "Bend" might be a bit of an understatement unless of course you find driving through parks, beaches, and malls a normal part of your commute home.

Crazy Taxi’s game play will remind many players of Sega’s smash-hit [game=#161333]Harley Davidson and the L.A. Riders[/game]. Like Harley, game play takes place in a virtual city, this one modeled after San Francisco. Players pick up one of over two hundred-fifty passengers located throughout the city and as quickly as possible, deliver them to their destination. The game will "suggest" a route but like Harley, if you think you know a better way to go, (like through a park or mall) go for it! Players get "tips" from their passengers by passing cars and not hitting them. They can earn extra time both by taking the shortest possible route and by stopping exactly under the arrow indicating the destination.

"There are a number of hidden features in the game," continued Gustafson. "For instance, players can pickup under water passengers by driving off the beach and into the ocean. Also, by pulling a "U" turn at the start of the game they’ll find an entirely new area of the city to explore." These and many other hidden features are sure to keep players returning again and again to see what else Crazy Taxi has to offer.***[b]Soundtrack titles:[/b]

Hamurabi Apple1976This game first appeared in 1969 on a DEC PDP-8, written in FOCAL, an ALGOL derivative, by the language's author, Rick Merrill (taking up 700 mighty bytes!) It gained popularity among the mainframe set after being ported to BASIC (needing to be trimmed down to 400 bytes in the process) and influenced at least one generation of game designers after its source code hit the mainstream in David H. Ahl's 1978 book BASIC Computer Games (aka 101 BASIC Computer Games), published by Creative Computing... seeing it typed feverishly, over and over again, into BASIC-interpreting microcomputers worldwide.

You can see scans of the original BASIC source code publication at http://atariarchives.org/basicgames/showpage.php?page=78 or, if you prefer, a raw text conversions of them at http://www.moorecad.com/classicbasic/basic/creative/hamurabi.bas.

9 de 10.***What is Legend of Grimrock?
* Old-school dungeon crawling game inspired by Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and Ultima Underworld.
* Explore a vast dungeon riddled with hidden switches, pressure plates, sliding walls, trapdoors and more.
* Discover secrets, cast spells with runes and craft potions with herbs.
* Fight murderous monsters and seek lost artifacts in ancient tombs.
* Create a party of four characters and customize them with different races, classes, skills and traits.

Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart but a modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by exiling them to the secluded Mount Grimrock for vile crimes they may or may not have committed. Unbeknownst to their captivators, the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by crumbled civilizations long perished now. If they ever wish to see daylight again and reclaim their freedom the ragtag group of prisoners must form a team and descend through the mountain, level by level.

The game brings back the oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. Legend of Grimrock puts an emphasis on puzzles and exploration and the wits and perception of the player are more important tools than even the sharpest of swords could be. And if you are a hardened dungeon crawling veteran and you crave an extra challenge, you can arm yourself with a stack of grid paper and turn on the Oldschool Mode which disables the luxury of the automap! Are you ready to venture forth and unravel the mysteries of Mount Grimrock?
