Final Fantasy VII  Square1997Final Fantasy VII has quickly become one of the best-selling Role Playing games of all time. Combining fully polygonal characters with pre-rendered backgrounds and a stirring musical score by Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy VII is a worthwhile addition to any RPG collection. The story centers on the young mercenary Cloud Strife, who is fighting against the evil Shinra, Inc. Along the way, he meets an unforgettable cast of characters such as his childhood friend Tifa Lockhart and the grumpy pilot Cid Highwind. All together, it is an unforgettable and engrossing single-player game that can last for over 60 hours!***

[27]***Final Fantasy VII, is one of the best game avalaible for the PSX, the graphics are impressive, the sound Incredible, has more than 1 hour of Full motion Video, and the best of all the storyline is amazing, superb, if you like the RPG the you must have This game. And the VIII too.***This is personally my least favourite Final Fantasy. They did well with the conversion to 3D, but I found the lack of decent story, the bad translation, the below average graphics etc. to be quite a turn off while playing. However, on the flip side of the coin, the spell effects are unrivalled by any other game of its time. The Materia system was an interesting devlopment, but all in all the game is too unbalanced to make it a truly enjoyable experience.***As far as I'm concerned, I think the complete opposite. The graphics were in no way bad for PSX at that time. The combat system was even more balanced than in V or VI, while the story is so huge as to draw you in and flash through the amazing 30 hours of gameplay. Oh and the translation is no worse than most other Japanese RPGs, the PC version tidied this up a bit I think. Plus Sephiroth's sword is kick-butt.***Witness the birth of the 3D RPG. Well, not quite, but a gigantic game with an incredible storyline, coupled with real-time action combat that had be honed through 6 previous games. A favourite instantly, this game brought RPGs out of Japan and selling widely in the West for the first time.***This game was one of the most enveloping games I have ever played. The story was decent (to say the least), and the musical score was heartwarming. I will remember it forever.
[DeviantBlade]***FF7 is seriously overrated, and has produced more fanboys/fangirls than I'd care to count. However it's not all bad, it's pretty decent.
Just not as godly as some would make it out to be.
[Haoie]***I agree with Haoie (above). Actually, got to like the second or third disc and stopped playing. The mini-games and all the damn little secrets were starting to wear me out. I give it credit for being the RPG that brought Japanese RPGs to the masses in the West, but that's about it.
[cjlee001]***Lack of story?! That man seems to not know what a good storyline is... I love this game. If I could play it in my sleep I would...

Final Fantasy VII  Square2019Mako. The discovery of this natural resource drawn directly from the planet's life force marked the dawn of a new era, and now the energy sustains the lives of people across the world. However, the Shinra Company has monopolized mako production, and in doing so established a powerful hegemony--its influence reaching the far corners of the globe.

Cloud, a former member of Shinra's military organization, SOLDIER, joins the anti-Shinra resistance group AVALANCHE, despite caring little for their motives. During one of the group's attempts to stop the company, they learn of the return of Sephiroth, Cloud's nemesis, and that with his reemergence, the planet is in greater danger than anyone had expected.

With the fate of the world riding on their success, Cloud and his allies set out to quell this deadly threat.***

Final Fantasy VII  Eidos;Square Enix (Square;Square Enix)1998The game was re-released in 2012 with the following added: cloud saves, achievements, and an easy access cheat ("Character Booster"). And updated to run on modern Windows OS.***Supposedly, this is not a code port. None of the original source code was used by the outside team from Hawaii that brought this game to Windows. When FF7 for PlayStation was completed, the entire team was reassigned or fired and their unique hardware was sold or dismantled. The source code was unique to the development hardware. Without the specialized hardware, the source code was not compileble or even modifiable in any useful way. Square had neither the people nor the code to do a port. All the new team had was the data specific to the PSX (barely useful) and unuseable source code. Eventually the team discovered that what they had been given was not even from the final PSX version, it was roughly rendered temporary data and pre-alpha code that had never actual been successfully compiled. And to top it off, no one on this new team had every worked on a game before. All this is known because all of the debug information (including rants and raves by the team) were unintentionally left in the executable.***First PC conversion of a Final Fantasy game that finally brought the bizarre numbering system in line in both Japan and Europe/USA.

PC RPGs were never the same again, the gigantic storyline and superb combat translated into the keyboard PC layout with surprising success.

Final Fantasy VIII  Square1999Ultimate character customization "Junction system" Junction system is G. F. (Summoned Beast, Guardian Force) is a system that strengthens abilities by junctioning items (other than items such as items and weapons) to characters.
In addition, remember the junction abilities (attack power junction, defense power junction etc.), you can further enhance the character by junctioning magic (Thunder, Fire etc.) to its abilities. In other words, you can customize characters indefinitely by combining character × abilities x magic.***Final Fantasy VIII, the sequel to Squaresoft's first PlayStation RPG, doesn't feature any of the characters from the original, but it does continue to deliver great gameplay. The story this time centers on Squall Leonhart, a young man in the military who is soon pulled into an adventure that spans the globe. Along the way, other characters can be recruited, ranging from the always-hyper Selphie to the egotistical Irvine. Nobuo Uematsu, who has composed the music for every Final Fantasy game, again scores the music. Featuring 3D characters and pre-rendered backgrounds, Final Fantasy VIII is one of the most impressive looking games ever.***

[27]***FF8 is the most controversial from 7, 8 and 9. This is due to the radically different gameplay system. Examples of this include enemies that level with you, requiring component parts to make new weapons, and junctioning magic to make attributes higher. Personally, I loved it.
[Haoie]***This is, without a doubt, the worst of the final fantasies. No armor, No shopping for weapons, An extremely annoying system for aquiring gil... These all together could be overlooked, even with the so-so graphics.
The Real Killer, though, is the main character. Squall is nothing but an uncaring, insensitive, pompous, conceited, jerk. The fact that he 'gets better' later in the game doesn't matter... If you don't want to get there with him in the first place.

Suikoden II  Konami1998An epic tale of friendship and treachery that can only be described as breathtaking, SUIKODEN 2 will leave you crying for a follow-up by the time you're done with it. With the power of the runes and the help of your allies, it is your task to derail the evil plans of Prince Luca Blight. Stocked with a dynamic battle system and tons of mini-games, this is truly an RPG to be reckoned with. SUIKODEN 2 will lead you through a roller coaster of emotions and just may change the way you play games.***True sequel (in the sense that it follows-up to the storyline of its predecessor), with better graphics and improved gameplay.
The army battles are now more advanced and act like mini-strategy/RPG battles where you move around your units on a map. The one-on-one duels are improved as well.
The music isn't as good as in Genso Suikoden, but still very strong.
The game still suffers from the prequel's lack of challenge, but it's much, much longer, and the artwork and character design is almost unparalleled.
Also has different endings, and you can use your Genso Suikoden saved game (if you had all 108 stars) and use it for extra bonus material.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World  Bandai;Namco (Namco Bandai Games)2008Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World [a] is an action role-playing game developed by Namco Tales Studio and published by Namco Bandai for the Wii as a cross of spin-off and sequel to Tales of Symphonia for the Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World takes place two years after the events of Tales of Symphonia.

Long ago, Sylvarant and Tethe'alla were united as a single world that drew strength from the Great Kharlan Tree. Divine intervention tore them apart, however, and the World Tree withered and died. It was eventually left to a boy named Lloyd Irving and his friends to restore the world to its true form. At their journey's end, a new World Tree was planted to replace the old one and to hold the two worlds together. This was the story of the Journey of Regeneration. Together once more, the world is now entering a new era. However, its people are still faced with many problems. After the lands became one, maps were rendered useless and the climate went through many vast changes: desert towns became frozen wastelands and lakes dried up into valleys. All of this stems from an overlooked factor in the unification of the worlds: the spirit of the old Kharlan Tree, Ratatosk, still exists somewhere, and its slumber has sent the world into chaos.

However, Ratatosk is not the only problem: the people of the two worlds are starting to hate each other. The citizens of Tethe'alla look down upon the citizens of Sylvarant due to their inferior technology, and the citizens of Sylvarant fear the citizens of Tethe'alla because of their power. Two years have passed since the worlds were first merged, and the people of Sylvarant have created the Vanguard which is supposed to rise against the Church of Martel and the people of Tethe'alla. Six months prior to the start of the game, the Church of Martel, led by the hero Lloyd Irving, attacked the Sylvaranti city Palmacosta because members of the Vanguard were meeting there. Countless innocent people died and Palmacosta was consumed in a terrible fire. This event came to be known as the Blood Purge, a bloody massacre caused by the Church of Martel.

Emil Castagnier, a Palmacostian boy, whose parents were killed by Lloyd, is sent to Luin to live with his aunt and uncle after this traumatic incident. He suffers continual mistreatment from them, however, and he is further ostracized by the people of the city, who view Lloyd as a hero. Emil's life takes a dramatic turn when he befriends Marta Lualdi, a girl who is being hunted by the Vanguard and the enigmatic Richter Abend alike. Determined to protect her, Emil confronts Richter and helps Marta escape with the aid of Tenebrae, a Centurion spirit who serves Ratatosk. Tenebrae states that there are other Centurions who lie in a dormant state: to restore balance to the world's environment, all of them should be awoken in order to revive Ratatosk. Emil forms a pact with Tenebrae, and in so doing becomes a Knight of Ratatosk. So it is that Emil and Marta embark on their journey of revenge and restoration.***
