1st Quest Revamp  author2002Collect useful items guarded by secret puzzles and enemies to gain access to 8 dungeons with more useful items guarded by bosses to gain access to the last dungeon to defeat Ganon and rescue Princess Zelda.

This is a remake of the original Legend of Zelda. The graphic overhaul is immediately apparent but there are a few other subtle changes. Most changes make the game not necessarily easier, just a bit less frustrating. Save or Continue, and Link's hearts remain unchanged or filled to three if they were below that. Boss fireballs not deflectable and Stone Statue fireballs deflectable looked identical in the original, now players can see the difference. Dungeon rooms are rarely so square as they were. Blocks are often replaced by walls where appropriate. And rooms that used to be a pattern of blocks are not a more organically shaped area with various obstacles to maneuver around. The new room shapes and smoothed out terrain means there are less places that look like bombable walls, so bombable walls are easier to find. Most notable it the changes in dungeon layout, where are not so much changing the rooms as it is replacing the room-to-room tunnels with a simple stairway (instant arrival at the other end). New pathways have been added. And dead ends and pointless treks into obscure corners of the dungeons are virtually eliminated by adding something useful or even necessary to them. A good example of this is in the first dungeon. In the original, Link can go left and get a key by defeating enemies. Or, Link can go right and get a key by defeating enemies. Or, both, if the player choses not to or does not knows where bomb to avoid using keys. In this remake, Link can only go left. When enemies are defeated, the staircase must be opened and this leads to the right room where the enemies must be defeated to open the exit back to the entry room. Another trick is make dead-end paths useful by having pots in the rooms. This way, players can now grind for hearts and money on a path that was just a waste of time in the original. Also there's more completely optional secrets to discover. Certain room based puzzles in the dungeons have completely new solutions. Player will find themselves using items in ways they are used in other Zelda games and in unique ways. These are usually easy and nearly intuitive. Along the lines of encountering something new in a room in a dungeon on the way to the boss; using the item collected in the same dungeon in a on the new thing to solve the puzzle. These are not just an added step, these teach the player. These new tricks learned in the dungeon can be used elsewhere to find a whole new set of secrets that have been added to the game. Also, use old tricks in new places to find the some of new secrets. This aptly named 1st quest is but only the 1st, no 2nd quest follows on defeating Ganon (to the best of my knowledge).

10 de 10***Bears some superficial resemblance to metroidvanias, but isn't one of them.***A 2D sidescroller without a linear path. An action game with tactical combat and strategic planning. An adventure game that lets you free-roam a vast, procedurally-generated world. A Valley Without Wind defies genre stereotypes. Unlike other procedurally-generated games, you also get a logical progression in difficulty, plus helpful tips and checklists to guide your travels (should you need them).

Choose for yourself how to prepare to face the vastly stronger Overlord. Complete a variety of missions to earn arcane rewards, or roam the wilds to uncover secret missions and stashes of magical loot. Customize your characters with unique combinations of enchants and spells that change how you move, jump, and fight. Or rescue people and bring them back to your settlement, recruiting them to help you in return.

You choose how to play, and the world adapts around you.

Key features:
* Travel alone or with friends across an ever-expanding world of dangerous creatures, powerful magic, high technology, and mysteries.
* You have choice. The world of Environ is procedurally generated, and lets you go anywhere you see -- including right into the overlord's keep at any time. (Good luck with that.)
* Environ is endless. When you save one continent from an overlord, a larger and more complex continent appears.
* The game adapts to how you play: as you demonstrate your proficiency, monsters upgrade accordingly. Killed 100 bats? Okay, time for... bats on fire!
* Crazy amounts of character customization. Combine a multitude of spells, enchants, and equipment to create specialized character builds.
* Play as a long line of brave adventurers. It's not a question of IF your character is going to die, but WHEN. Any character that dies is permanently lost, but you keep all your inventory, enchants, and general progress in the game.
* Become a community leader. Rescue NPCs, have them join your settlement, and construct buildings for them -- they may return the favor and help you.
* Be a clever problem-solver. Challenges have more than one solution, each with its own pros and cons. You get to figure things out rather than just jumping through a set of hoops.
* Difficulty levels give exactly the challenge you want, from casual to hardcore on both platforming and combat independently.
* New updates are arriving all the time packed with additional content, improvements, and more.

Abyss Odyssey ATLUS (ACE Team)2014A rogue-lite fighting-platformer game with a very peculiar and oniric setting.

Pros:
-The game is raw fluid art, from the music and atmosphere to the peculiar looks (who seem like and assembly of Bosch paintings, chilean mythology, architecture from the Renaissance and S.XIX colorful portraits)
-Enemy AI is challenging, making each enemy a notable hurdle in your journey.
-A fighting system who lends heavily from Smash Bros. series and adds some other elements (as parries)
-A reset-over gameplay, pointing to the importance of surviving over a foolhardy approach.
-Soul-capture: you can play as your enemies.
-Journal pages: a simple and powerful way of delivering a backstory drop by drop.

Cons:
-Camera zooms are not adequate from time to time.
-The control feels very clunky, making fighting and platforming frustrating. Sadly, this is a MAJOR issue for enjoying the game.

[27]***Generations ago, the world fell into deep Chaos. The Master had maintained the world in a state of peace and harmony. However, an evil one called Tanzra began to threaten its very existence. People spent their lives manifesting their love to their Master while fearing The Evil One. The Master and The Evil One were eternal enemies. In strength and power they were almost equals. Even though the world has fallen into Chaos, somehow the earth continued on its revolving course.***ActRaiser is a single player mix of alternating overhead city-building simulation and side-scrolling platform action. The protagonist in the English version is 'The Master'. A deity who's been away for a while and returns to find his people have been lead astray and their civilization destroyed by the demon Tanzra, "The Evil One". The player is controls things as the Master descends from heaven on a cloud to observer the people and causes a stone statue to be possessed with his spirit. Using this this living statue armed with a sword, demons are slain and souls are freed. The sim mode begins with the creation of a male and female to tend a population center as the Master eliminates more demons and miraculously prepares the way for the people to build and multiply in their little corner of the world. In this view, and angel armed with a bow and arrow is directed against demons emerging from their layers to attack the people. Meanwhile, the people are directed to seal the layers and build where the master directs. At a certain point, the local demons and their leader will regroup to stop the progress. At this point the Master inhabits a statue to finish the job in action mode. This continues for 6 regions until one final standalone action stage completed.

The game's story is in fact a Judeo-Christian allegory; confirmed by the Japanese story of ActRaiser 2 where the protagonist and antagonist characters are revealed to be named God and Satan. No religion/faith tag yet applies to this game entry, however, because the religion of the game's creators is currently unknown to the uvl community (stay tuned). Even without the revelation of the true names of these characters, the allegory is pretty blatant. The Master descends and ascends to heaven, is accompanied by angel(s), creates life (beginning with a male and female), frees souls, performs miracles, destroys demons, creates order and peace out of chaos and strife, he cannot lose (though the player can), defeats the evil one, listens to and answers prayers, accepts offerings (which in turn benefit the people), casts false gods out of his temple, and is totally ignored by the people as soon as they perceive their problems have been eliminated and he loves them anyway.

Hint: Preforming better in the action mode will actually cause more demos to inhabit the lairs in the sim mode. This in turns leads to a higher population potential for the region.
The world map resembles North America
The English version was much easier than the original. But, upon beating the game, the Japanese difficulty level for the action mode is unlocked.
ActRaiser was provided for Wii's Virtual Console in 2007.
[Zerothis]***A masterpiece of game design originally released in the early days of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System , ActRaiser's enduring popularity stems from its revolutionary combination of action- and simulation-based game play. The user plays the role of the Master, a dethroned deity whose once-idyllic world has fallen under the control of the Evil One. Stripped of godly power, the Master must somehow put an end to the Evil One's reign and rebuild his desolate realm. Game play alternates between two modes: Action and Simulation. In Action mode, the Master must battle against impossible odds to pacify six lands. Pacifying a land unlocks Simulation mode. In this mode, the Master must oversee the development and re population of the territory he has reclaimed. In doing so, he will gain followers who gradually restore his godly might, empowering him to take back the next land and, ultimately, defeat the Evil One.***Shame on you if you've never played Actraiser before! This version, other than having an amazingly badass logo, is actually a lot harder than the US release of the game. Even in Fillmore 1, there are more brambles, more monsters, more everything. It's crazy great. Ian Kelley wanted to retranslate the game, so here it is! Far be it from me to deprive one of my star translators from an awesome request or two!

Advance Guardian Heroes  Ubisoft (Treasure)2004Can you master the more than 160 fighting moves in Advance Guardian Heroes? The multiple modes of gameplay gives you plenty of chances to become a fighting master.

A side-scroller with RPG elements, Advance Guardian Heroes brings friends together for serious fighting action. You can hook four Game Boy Advances together through Game Boy Advance Game Link Cables and duke it out in Vs. Mode. As you battle your opponents, be mindful of environmental traps like cliffs and oceans.

Two players can also cooperate in Story Mode. Each player chooses a character, each with his own special abilities. Enn comes at opponents with a pocketful of fire. Ray packs the power of thunder, and Hyu cools enemies down with ice. You also come across characters from the original Guardian Heroes, released in 1996.

The Options menu lists all the attacks for each of the three main characters. Be sure to master the highly effective counterattack. Block an enemy's attack directly after he unleashes it. Your counter bounces the attack back at him.
After you defeat an enemy, it will often leave behind a Soul Crystal. Use the crystals to either invest in skill research or to power-up your abilities. Each character is rated in such areas as vitality, mind, attack, defense, magic attack and magic defense.

When your character dies in Story Mode, you can choose to either start at the last checkpoint or sell your soul and enter Devil Mode. In Devil Mode, you continue the story as an invincible alter ego of your character. But all good things come to an end. When time runs out on your Devil Mode, you have to start the game over from your last save point when you were still relatively mortal.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Dragons of Flame  Pony Canyon1992Game description from Romhacking.net:

This, I think, is the sequel to Heroes of the Lance. Heroes of the Lance is, well, barely playable, and therefore not very fun. Dragons of Flame turns the playability up a few notches, but the game still manages to be not very fun. To me, anyways. For starters, there's an overworld now. And you can go talk to people, who respond in Japanese! Whee! And monsters run into you, Zelda II-style, and then you fight them in a side-view, also Zelda II-style. Except, the monsters beat the hell out of you and you can't really do much about it. Except heal constantly. Whee, just like a real RPG! Okay I'm done.
