8 Eyes  Seta;Taxan (Thinking Rabbit)1988After hundreds of years of chaos, mankind has finally emerged from the ruins of nuclear war. This world of the distant future has once again flourished under the guidance of the Great King, who harnessed the power of the 8 Eyes to rebuild the planet. These strange jewels of power were formed at the eyes, or center, of the eight nuclear explosions which nearly destroyed the Earth. In the wrong hands, the 8 Eyes could cause untold destruction... And now, they have been seized by the Great King's eight Dukes, in a desperate bid to gain control of the world for themselves. They have banished the King to the nuclear wastelands, and already their squabbling threatens to plunge the world into war once again! The task of retrieving the 8 Eyes falls to you, Orin the Falconer, the bravest and mightiest of the King's Guardsmen. With your fighting falcon, Cutrus, you must penetrate each of the 8 Dukes' castles. There you will face the Dukes' soldiers, and battle strange nuclear mutants such as living skeletons, giant wasps, and mud men. You must defeat the monstrous Boss of each castle to retrieve the Jewel of Power he guards. Then, to complete your quest, return the 8 Eyes to the Altar of Peace to await the return of the Great King, so that he may finish the rebuilding of Earth. Your reward will be the eternal gratitude of all mankind!***

A Nightmare on Elm Street LJN (Rare)1990Something frightening has been happening on Elm Street lately. It seems that with each waking day another grussome discovery is made... another neighborhood teen has mysteriously passed away into the dark stillness of the night. Everyone says it's "natural causes," but it seems as if something (or someone) has been picking them off one by one in their sleep. It's a horrible nightmare come true... and this nightmare has a name: Freddy Krueger.
It's up to you and your remaining friends to search Elm Street for his bones, which have been scattered about then collect and burn them in the High School furnace. If you can just stay awake long enough, you might be able to end Freddy's reign of terror for good. You had better hurry though, it's getting late and you can feel your eyelids getting heavier and heavier by the minute.***NES-ES-USA

Aigīna no Yogen: Balubalouk no Densetsu Yori  Vic Tokai1986Aigiina no Yogen is a strange platform game. Between the different levels/dungeons you walk around on an overworld. Once in a dungeon the perspective changes to side-view and you have to kill a certain amount of enemies until a ladder appears to the next room and so on. Monsters are killed by activating stationary weapons which appear when you jump against blocks with your head. The game is really frustrating. The controls are a big issue. You can make normal and high jumps. But high jumps fail so often because of the unresponsive controls it ruins everything. And if the game wouldn't be hard enough because of that, the developers had you find five star fragments throughout the dungeons, which are in very secretly hidden rooms. And why they made the overworld so frustrating as well I don't know. Here you also have to walk on exact spots to trigger events like earthquakes which open up the way again. NESlabelimageminimize

Almana no Kiseki  Konami1987***In "Almana no Kiseki" you control an "Indiana Jones" look-a-like on a quest to retrieve a stolen magical stone to peaceful village people. You main tool in this game is a grappling hook to reach higher platforms. And thats pretty much necessary because the hero is a lousy jumper, which is my main complaint about this game. The controls are not that good and I expected a little bit better from a Konami game. Jumping on moving platforms and using the grappling hook can be quite difficult to achieve. Graphics and music are still quite good for its time though and it is somehow enjoyable if you can overcome the difficult controls. Famicom Disk Systemlabelimageminimize

Bio-Miracle Bokutte Upa  Konami1993About five years after the original Famicom Disk System version Konami released a cartridge version for the Famicom, and again only in Japan. While the game retains its good playability and charme due to the unusual baby protagonist and varied stages there was already lots more competition and better platform games on the market in 1993. But nonetheless still a nice platform game.***BIO MIRACLE BOKUTTE UPA is an action game released in 1988, but it was never available outside of Japan. Players take on the role of baby Upa, a prince of the Akuyo kingdom. Prince Upa must take on an adventure spanning seven different worlds in order to rescue the kingdom from the dangerous demon Zai. Upa must defeat the enemies he meets along the way by inflating them. Upa can then use these floating enemies to his advantage by bouncing off of or riding on top of them. The prince must also avoid deadly thorns and pits while keeping an eye out for helpful items such as milk (to restore health) and bells (for temporary invincibility) if he hopes to succeed. Bionic Commando Rearmed  Capcom (GRIN)2008Classic side-scrolling gameplay is reporting back for duty with Bionic Commando Rearmed, a remake of the classic NES game, out now on PC.

20 years after the 8-bit classic was released, Bionic Commando Rearmed recreates the world of the original with a complete "2.5D" visual revamp. Bionic Commando Rearmed preserves the original's mix of swinging and shooting in an intense 2D side-scroller, all to the tune of a brand-new soundtrack based on the classic 8-bit music from the NES masterpiece.
But Rearmed is far more than just a remake - it features all-new modes such as the 2-player co-op play, smarter enemy AI, new bionic arm abilities, new weapons, bigger bosses and online rankings. Faithfully sticking to the story of the NES game, Bionic Commando Rearmed tells the story of Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer's first mission, sent in to retrieve captured agent Super Joe from the hands of the Imperials.
Fans of the original story can expect to see all the characters from the NES version, as well as the memorable moments that made the title so popular with fans. Rearmed will also link-up to its 3D "big brother" coming to PC, with unlockable content, in-game hints and a story that spans both games.

Key features:

*Classic Bionic Commando side-scrolling gameplay, updated with new abilities, weapons and bosses
*2-player co-op mode
*Total modern visual and audio revamp
*Cross-game interoperability – complete specific parts of Bionic Commando Rearmed to unlock new content and hints for the Bionic Commando sequel
*Challenge Rooms – obstacles courses and swing puzzles that test your skills, with your best times ranked against other users in online leaderboards
*Top-Down Stages – the return of the top-down scrolling gameplay of the original's 'Enemy Encounter' stages, with remixed music from the classic Commando!
*Multiplayer – up to 4 players can face off in a frantic melee of shooting and swinging!
*In-game art designed by Shinkiro, one of Capcom's most talented artists

Brataccas Psygnosis1986The legendary Bandersnatch, the "megagame" for the Spectrum, that never was, finally saw the light of day in this title.

This was a very difficult game to control. Once you had the contols down though this game was great. The first game I ever knew of that allowed you complete freedom, while other characters continued on in the background. You can go around and kill everyone (except one character and the robots are supposed to be replaced...
I can't remember if that actually happens or not). Anyway, I love this game still. It was also available on the Atari ST.

[52]***In Captain Silver, you play the role of Jim, a brave young lad with a taste of adventure. You embark on a journey to find Captain Silver's secret treasure hoard, which is rumored to be hidden on an island in the Eastern Seas.

There are six scenes in the game. During his travels, Jim will explore villages, fight his way on board ships, venture through caves, and wander around tropical islands. In each of these six scenes, Jim must use his sword to kill cats, rats, bats, witches, skeletons, and other creatures that are waiting for him. When Jim touches, or is shot at, by a creature, he loses one of his lives, but when he kills a creature, he can collect some gold that they leave behind, which can be used to buy items from shops. However, rather than getting gold, enemies leave behind some gold containing one of the letters that spell the word "CAPTAIN SILVER". If Jim manages to get all of these letters, he will be awarded an extra life.

Jim may only use his sword to start off with, but once he collects a fairy that floats toward him in every scene, Jim will be able to shoot stars at enemies, making his kills more efficient. The maximum number of stars that he can have is six. There are other power-ups that Jim can collect in the game. These include the "clock" power-up, which gives Jim extra time; the "boot" power-up which allows Jim to jump higher; and the "coffee?" power-up, which enables Jim to shield himself from creatures until he is hit by one.

There is a boss in each scene, which he must defeat in order to proceed to the next round. There is also a certain time limit, which Jim must complete the scene before it expires. If he does not, then he will lose a life.***There are two version of this cart. The "two-mega" version was released in Canada and Europe and has all 6 levels and all the enemies mentioned in the manual. The "one-mega" version was released in the USA. It has only 4 levels and is missing many enemies. The USA game manual still describes the missing levels and enemies.

Castlequest  ASCII;Nexoft (ASCII;Bits Laboratory)1986A long time ago in a faraway land, there lived a lovely young princess named Margarita. Her beauty and grace were known throughout the land - especially to Mad Mizer, the Dark Lord of the grim Groken Castle high in the Forbidden Mountains. He had vowed to make the Princess his queen; and so, one terrible day, he sent his ghoulish helpers to capture her, and she was carried off and imprisoned in one of the hundred miserable rooms of Groken Castle. News of the kidnapping spread throughout the kingdom, and many courageous young men braved the perils of Groken Castle in an attempt to rescue the Princess - only to become hopelessly lost in the complicated maze of rooms, ensnared in one of the many treacherous traps, or foiled by Mad Mizer's deadly servants. Finally the news reached the worthy Prince Rafael, who had long loved the Princess from afar. Raising his sword to the heavens, Prince Rafael swore that nothing would keep him from her side, and set out on his Castlequest. The odds against him seemed hopeless... But legend has it that two magical fairies have been held captive in the Castle for centuries. If the Prince can find and release them to gain their help, he may yet succeed in his quest. And to rescue his fair Princess, he is prepared to face the deadly wrath of the Dark Lord himself!***This is a different game from [game=#i196277]Castle Quest[/game]***In this platform/puzzle mix you control a brave knight trying to rescue a princess which is trapped inside a huge castle. The way to the princess however is blocked by doors. Many doors. So your main objective is to collect keys with the appropriate colors to make progress. Although you start with 50 lives (at least in the US version) the game is not easy. Pixel-perfect jumping is needed and there is the constant threat that you run out of keys and trap yourself. This is also my main complaint about this game, cause it tends to become confusing and frustrating. And your only attack (with a knife) has a much too short range. As with many early ASCII Famicom/NES games this game originated on MSX homecomputers. The rooms of the castle are bigger though in the NES version (the MSX games featured only one-screen rooms). Graphics and sound get their job done but are far from being great. NESlabelimagesubject
