Full Throttle  LucasArts1995One minute you're on the road, riding. Not a care in the world. Then some guy in a suit comes along, says he's got a deal for you and your gang. But when you come to, you've got a lump on your head, the law on your back, and a feeling in your gut that the road you're on is about to get a lot rougher...***
[22]******A cinematic-heavy 1995 adventure game from LucasArts. It's like a cool animated biker movie. The game doesn't have a tremendous amount of replay value, but it's so intensely cool the first time around I can forgive it. The combination 3D rendered animations and hand-drawn characters and backgrounds (really cool in 1995) is pulled off well, and the storyline and voice acting is superb. The game uses the venerable SCUMM engine for the adventure portions, and a variation on the Rebel Assault engine for its (fairly easy) action-oriented biking/fighting scenes.

Watch for Mark Hamill in three different roles, including that of lead villian Adrian Ripburger, the evil second-in-command of Corley Motors.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!  Nintendo of America;Nintendo;Hyundai (Nintendo of America)1987"Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream" was the result of Nintendo's not renewing their license to use Mike Tyson's name shortly after he was incarcerated.***

[52]***"Mike Tyson's Punch-Out" is a favorite amongst NES gamers. Boxing games are not my favorite type of games, but Punch-Out is indeed a rather good game. Mostly because it is so different from all the other boxing games of the era, which consisted mostly of stupid button-mashing viewing the boxers from a side-view perspective. Not only is the perspective different in Punch-Out, your opponents also require the right tactics to be defeated. The opponents are very different in that regard. Once you know the right tactic it is a matter of skill to execute the right actions in the right moment. And that works pretty well I must admit. In combination with nice graphics and huge, animated boxer sprites it is an enjoyable product.***It's a right jab, a left hook, an uppercut-it's Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! where you'll get the chance to compete against boxers from around the globe. Punch your way through thirteen bouts in the minor, major and world circuits against tough contenders like Piston Honda, Glass Joe, Super Macho Man and many many more. Defeat all your opponents and meet the ultimate challenge against the World Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson in the greatest fight of all-The Dream Bout! Knockout Tyson and you can become WVBA (World Video Boxing Association) Champ.***Several factors lead to two versions of this game. Mike Tyson sued Nintendo for making his character beatable. The contract with Mike Tyson to use his name and likeness was for three years. It expired and was not renewed. The game was still profitable, so Nintendo opted to keep selling it as a rebranded product.

It is commonly repeated that Mike Tyson's criminal conviction was a deciding factor in the rebranding of this game. I myself am guilty of helping spread this rumor. Turns out Tyson had been arrested 38 times previous before Nintendo chose to seek his endorsement. More importantly, the incident for which Mike Tyson was arrested and the trial and conviction for it, took place in 1991. After the rebranded Punch-Out was published in 1990.***The Japanese version originally featured Super Macho Man. Only the USA version featured Mike Tyson. Shortly after release, Tyson's popularity began growing in Japan so the original Japanese version was discontinued and the Japanese market also got Mike Tyson's Punch-out!!. The early Japanese version without Tyson is a distinctive gold color.***You are little Mac and you have to fight your way through the WVBA. Your goal is to fight your way into the dream bout with Mr. Ear-Biter himself, Mike Tyson. After three years, Nintendo was forced to drop Tyson's name from the game after he sued them for making his character beatable! Tyson claimed, at the time, that he could not be beaten! TRUE STORY! I wonder what Evander Holyfield thinks about that?***The NES version of Punch-Out!! uses a combination of characters from arcade games Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!!, plus some new ones. Although the gameplay is essentially the same and the graphics are inferior to the arcade versions, many (including myself) would agree that the extra touches in the NES game make it far more entertaining and memorable than the other two.

Return Fire Time Warner1996Test out your warfare tactics in this combative update on classic capture the flag. Using a variety of vehicles; helicopters, tanks, humvees, and armored support vehicles. It's up to you to break into the opposition's territory, get the flag from the secret bunker, and return to your base safely. Of course, the attack isn't one-sided: your enemy is simultaneously organizing its forces to reach your flag and return with it. With over 100 intricate, challenging missions and four awesome vehicles to use, the game's replay value is high. The only question is: do you have the guts?***

[27]***Your main objective is to break down and destroy your enemy's defenses, capture the enemy's flag and bring it back safely to your bunker before your opponent captures your flag and brings it back to his bunker. Race against the clock in one player mode or play against your friend in two player mode. Choose from four vehicles; helicopter, tank, armored support vehicle (ASV) or the Humvee (the only vehicle that can transport the flag).

Return Fire Prolific Publishing (Silent Software)1995Remember playing capture the flag when you were little? Imagine that, but with some serious firepower involved. Play with bombs, launch rockets, and roll tanks over a military landscape tailor-made for an all-out battle. Try and capture the flag alone or with a friend (the action unfolds in split-screen mode in two player battles).
It's hard to say what's more exciting, actually nabbing your opponent's flag or just plain blowin' stuff up.***

Satan's Hollow  Bally Midway1981The devil holds back nothing as he sends all of his evil servants after you. Battle pterodactyls and demons. Try to build a bridge across the moat of lava to enter Satan's Hollow. Ten different attack patterns increase the righteous challenge.

Cross the bridge and your opponent is Satan himself. You now must dodge deadly pitchforks and spiraling fireballs to survive. Great arcade excitement, outstanding graphics and sound make this a winner!

Brave the firebombs and balls of lava hurled by the devil's henchmen. Face Beelzebub's cascade of fire.

Beelzebub is elusive and dangerous as he hovers menacingly, breathing fire!

One or two player action makes it fun to compete against each other. Beginner's level allows you to practice easy attack patterns before doing battle with the real tough ones.***

SimCopter Maxis1996Get over SimCity in action-packed helicopter missions. Soar through pre-built cities, or import your own SimCity 2000 cities and see them in hyper-realistic 3-D. There are fires to fight, shipwrecked Sims to save and traffic to un-jam. SimCity 2000 not required but maps can be imported from that game. Nerves of steel recommended.

Trivia:
Sometimes included in lists of censored games because of the himbo controversy. One of the programmers, Jacques Servin, designed a civilian model with runway lights for nipples that wore skimpy speedos. These characters would seek out each other in the game for makeout sessions. They would also appear in extreme large numbers on certain dates. All of this was intentionally done by Servin in protest of the severe working conditions the programmers had to endure. But, an unintended emergent behavior occurred with the himbo characters, they would sometimes mindlessly swarm the helicopter. This resulted in hundreds of sliced up civilians and the player would earn massive amounts of bonus points when emergency vehicles were dispatched to cleanup the mess. Maxis fired Servin and corrected the problem soon after the game's release. This is not considered censorship because Jacques Servin secretly added the content without consulting the other members of the team that had creative control of the project.
