Arena Entropic Software? abstract-location arenashooter commercial demo fallbackweapon independentaim jumping license-proprietary licensechange openal score twinstickshooter ubuntu uvl-confusable Arena is an action shooter. A dual analog joystick is highly recommended,
although you can use the keyboard. Arena is extremely difficult and will be
a challenge to the hardened gamer. Many people cannot complete the Arena levels
included in the Free Edition, let along the Silver or Gold Editions!

You can begin Arena at the start of any Area you have reached. Unlike Orbit
and Flick, if you run out of lives, you must begin again from the start of
the Area. At the end of each Area (except the first) is a boss, who you must
defeat to reach the next Area. If you lose a life at the start of the Area,
don't worry, the loss will be ignored. You can play at the start of an Area
as many times as you like without loss of life. Once you're off that start
level though, you are vulnerable.

In Arena you will run into bonuses from time to time. Initially these bonuses
appear once per Area, but by the end of the game you will gain several bonuses
every level.

The final level of the game has a very, very big and nasty boss. Expect an
epic battle here...

Galley Battles: from Salamis to Actium Shrapnel Games (Hyperborea Studios)? africa ancientegypt ancientgreece antiquity cancelled commercial demo earth europe grid-none imperiumromanum license-proprietary tactical vaporware war warfare-sea Yet there is a playable demo. In 2012, the author says the game is still in development.

Alpha versions of this game used a hex grid. The latest versions don't use a grid.***Announced in 2005 with expected release date 2006. Has not been released yet (by 2012) and official website expired in 2009. Last activity by the developer was in 2008.***Galley Battles recreates navel battles from the beginning of row and sail sea warfare until self-powered ironclads. The Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, Phoenicians, and Romans had fleets of hundreds of boats (and variously fought on the same side in mixed fleets), now gamers can experience commanding them. Which is a big part of the challenge. You can't exactly radio the captains. And when you're fleet is covering 655,360 square kilometers, not every ship is within visual range. The author chose the subject matter not only due to its lacking coverage in most war games but also because he doesn't like micromanagement in war games and the time periods involved make micromanagement unrealistic. Let the player worry about tactics, units, formations, weather, tides, and the computer will handing the inertia, accelerations, angles, and such parameters. Your best bet is having a good battle plan for everyone to follow before the action starts. And you need to match your crews on ships and match ships in your squadrons. Veterans and a rookies rigging the sails together will go slower than the rookies would alone. Rather the veterans should train the rookies before battle and command them during battle. And it helps if everyone on the ship speaks the same language (which is not always possible). Ships need to be similarly grouped in squadrons so formations don't break up and orders end up taking longer than expected to happen. Worse, a ship may run aground or collide with another. If needed, commanding squadrons to keep up with any necessary changes to the plan can be done. Better captains and crews and squadrons efficiently matched mean they are able to carryout more complex orders. When you don't have a matched force (it was unavoidable in some historic battles), you'd better keep the orders few and simple or they'll get snafued. And don't worry, if you really want to, you can give orders to individual ships using ancient methods from history (with historically realistic results). Each player takes turns giving orders, then it all plays out simultaneously until 5 game minutes have passed. Actual time this takes depends on the player's visual zoom level. Zoom in to see the details and slow things down, zoom out to end the action in as few seconds as possible. There is no grid and the world and everything in it is done to scale.

Orbit Entropic Software? abstract-location commercial demo fallingblocks license-proprietary licensechange match3 naturalistic openal ubuntu uvl-confusable visualmatching Orbit is an arcade puzzler. Your aim is to clear the game board of pieces by
making matching lines of three pieces or more. When these matching pieces
reach a matcher, they fall, along with all of the pieces above them.

You cannot rotate pieces; this is deliberate and part of the game (for specific
reasons, see the Frequently Asked Questions section of the Entropic Software
site). Pieces fall where they are aimed; the piece preview will show you what
will happen with your piece.

A valid strategy in Orbit is to make matching lines as low as possible, with
the aim of "digging" out other pieces. This works as matches cause all of the
pieces above them to fall as well.

Longer lines of pieces will earn you more points and give access to bonus
pieces. The longer the line, the better the bonus.

The levels are random each time (within constraints) and as such are quite
replayable.

Parity Entropic Software? abstract-location commercial demo fallingblocks grid grid-square langinsignificant license-proprietary licensechange logic match3 openal score ubuntu visualmatching Parity is a turn-based arcade puzzler. Your aim is to make large groups of
matching pieces. The larger the groups of pieces you match, the greater your
score. There is no time pressure in Parity. There is an element of luck that
can be overcome by skillful play.

You may select a single group of pieces at a time. The score you receive for
each selection is based on the number of pieces that you manage to bring
together in a group. Larger groups earn many more points. A group is a number
of similar pieces connected by the horizontal and vertical edges. Lone pieces
not in a group cannot be matched or selected. The number of remaining pieces
at the end affects your score; the fewer, the better.

As you make matches, the pieces will fall from the board. The remaining pieces
will move together and the puzzle will continue. On the basic levels, all
pieces fall downwards, and if any columns are freed then the right of the
board will be shifted leftwards to close the gap.

To get huge scores you will have to make matches with very large numbers of
pieces and clear the board entirely. Remember that you cannot match lone
pieces, so you must ensure they all end up in groups or you will throw
precious points away.

The is no time pressure in Parity, but a fair degree of luck that can be
overcome with skillful play. You can get up and walk away at any time without
affecting the gameplay.
