Darkseed | Cyberdreams | 1992 | Dark Seed is an adventure game which capitalizes on the drawings of famous horror designer H. R. Giger as a source of background artwork and inspiration. You play Mike Dawson, an ad company manager who, in pursuit of his goal in life to become a writer, purchases a solitary mansion in a small town called Woodland Hills. Although the low cost and hush-hush transactions when purchasing the house do raise your suspicion, the solitary environment and sheer beauty of the house crush common sense and you decide to buy the house. That's when trouble begin. Upon reaching the house, you suddenly feel tired. You find a bed and fall asleep... ... and wake up from a terrible dream, only to find out that your life has just become a worse nightmare: an unknown source has implanted a seed of darkness in your mind, and you only have three days to find a way to stop it.***French version. Vision: The 5 Dimension Utopia | LBS (ad Games) | 1992 | Vision: The 5th Dimension Utopia is an advertising game for the German building society LBS, which sold it rather cheaply in its branches. The setting is an arcology floating on the sea. You are a new citizen in this city and you've got to work in order to make money for food and the rent of your suite while staying healthy through sleeping and eating enough. The common way to earn money is playing mostly action-oriented mini-games or doing smaller quests (or rather tasks), which also are part of the plot of the game. | labelimagesubject

Wolfenstein 3D | Apogee;Activision;GT Interactive (id Software) | 1992 | ***A fun run-and-gun FPS (one of the pioneers of the genre) with a simple goal in mind: kill nazis. It has not aged well (its palette is very harsh to the sight, and its control feels clunky), but still its minoic level design (filled with secrets) and its variety of levels (from the ubermensch/zombie army of mission 2 to the secret nightmare of mission 4) make it a nice title. Its simpleness is its best virtue; nonetheless this game was made to be hard. 7 of 10, would kill mystic führers again.***Maybe it was the fact that people got to blow away Nazis. Maybe it was the sheer challenge of it all. For whatever reason, Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny, pioneered the first-person shooter genre and brought its legendary creators, id Software, worldwide notoriety and numerous awards. In fact, The Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame recognized Wolfenstein 3D as helping to shape the overall direction of the computer gaming industry. [Steam Store]*** [52]***They also released a mission pack titles "The Nocturnal Missions" with three more episodes. Later releases of Wolfenstein 3D would include these mission pack episodes and thus had six episodes instead of only the three original episodes.***Third game in the Wolfenstein series. 1st version published by Apogee. Republished later by Activision Publishing and again by GT Interactive. [Zerothis]***The first really addictive First-person shooter! | labelimagesubject

Bram Stoker's Dracula | Psygnosis (TAG) | 1993 | In this shooter, you have to deal with undead. Not only with Dracula, as the title foreshadows, but that would be some untypical 3D shooter, anyways. Though it has the license of the Francis Ford Coppola movie based on Stoker's novel, there is little relation to events in the movie. Legions of the undead are rising from their graves, and it's your job to put a stop to the madness. To do this, you must purify the many creature-spawning graves on Dracula's estate while fending off the horrendous monsters along the way. Having Psygnosis’ name on the box can’t rescue Dracula from the tedious gameplay – rooms in the estate begin to resemble one another after a while, and puzzles are quite simplistic and boring (find key X to unlock door Y). I looked for that game for an eternity, because I played the demo version in 1993, but never found the full game those days. Sometimes I even thought I just dreamed that game and it never existed ;-). Anyways, here you can take a look yourself if you like.*** [37] | labelimagesubject

As detective Jack Bene, you travel through Europe in search for the formula, solving simple puzzles and using a fair amount of ointments on your way. Geheimprojekt DMSO is freeware, was published in German and Germany only, and features the exact ingredients of 100 g Dolobene(TM) and 100 g Rheumabene(TM) on no less than three manual pages. | labelimagesubject
