The PC version was developed in 1982 and was monochrome, but a very addictive game. I currently have the C64 version, runable on the C64-S emulator and the Coleco version, runable on ColEM-Win.

River Raid	Activision	1984	The player must maneuver their jet plane up the river just inches from the surface of the water. So low that the plane can collide with the banks of the river or canyon walls in some places. The goal is to shoot all enemy ships, helicopters, bridges, planes, and fuel tanks and do not collide with them. Also, fuel can be stolen from the tanks by flying over them, this is necessary to keep the player's jet flying. While the game does not have a proper ending, there is an obvious point where there is no more to be seen.[spoiler=ending;close]The river is an endless loop and decent players will be able to advance far enough to see the section of river they started at, perhaps even multiple times. The 'end' of the loop is a climatic as it is the most difficult section of the river.[/spoiler] Requires a cartridge port and PCjr or Tandy 1000 (8088 or 8086 CPU, 64 KB RAM. He is know for his Dictionaries that happened not to preclude words based on his personal taste. He did, said, and wrote things that were somewhat counter-culture in his lifetime. I'm certain he would have approved of this game based on its content. But I still have to wonder how he would react to use of the phrase "demon words" for potentially high scoring words and the title art including a devil flipping off the viewer.
King's Quest: Quest for the Crown	Sierra On-Line	1984	King's Quest was created for the PCjr and Sierra staked the company on it. The PCjr was canceled, but, Tandy cloned the design and King's Quest instead, debuted as a Tandy 1000 pack-in game specifically designed for Tandy's 16 color graphics and 3 voice sound. This entry is about the later MS-DOS specific version with additional sound and graphics options. Eventually there was a VGA patch. Agent USA	Scholastic (Tom Snyder Productions)	1985	This is a boot loading game that does not require an operating system be running on the computer (the disk provides its own). It only needs an 8088/8086 IBM-PC or compatible computer. You play Agent USA as he attempts to eradicate the FuzzBomb epidemic. He must grow the only cure for the FuzzBomb, crystals, that replicate only when laid still outdoors. Since they cure the infected (FuzzBodies), they extremely valuable to the average citizen that does not want to be infected. They are likely to be stolen while replicating. If a citizen or Agent USA are holding crystals when touched by a FuzzBody, a crystal is destroyed rather getting the infection. Agent USA can block or push citizens to protect his crystal farm. Additionally, a FuzzBody is cured and becomes a normal citizen if they touch (and break) a crystal. Agent USA will be traveling the US via trains. Fuzzbodies will be spreading the infection in the mean time. And the original FuzzBomb is located in one of the infected cities. The ultimate goal is to find the source, the original FuzzBomb, and drop 100 crystals on it. This is an edutainment game that introduces train scheduling, ticket buying, geography, time zones, and epidemic spread.***Not really a DOS game as it wasn't installed or required no O/S to be installed on the PC. It's a so called "PC booter" game.
