Mouse flight

Video game concept

A method of flight control achieved by controlling a pointer across the screen rather than mapping the pointer directly to flight control, the vehicle then automatically adjusts its vector until it faces where the pointer was moved.

Alternate name: Pointer flight

There's two variations of this. The pointer controlling the flight vector semi directly, or in manner similar to designating a trajectory which the vehicle adjusts itself, adjusting the pointer back to center position as it gets nearer to the designated vector (the former example keeps the adjustment, making fast turns easier). Occasionally games offer easy switching between the two as both have benefits over the other.

Although almost always called mouse flight, this can be accomplished with any pointer device, including trackballs, touch screens, and tablets.
