AtariBox, Atari Just Drank the Kool-Aid

2017-09-27 (updated 2017-10-04)
A new Atari game console. Not Flashback, well kinda is, but also a real game console. It's Atari (the latest company), it's retro, it's modern, it's Linux, and it's probably going to be a success. It is probably also a SteamBox for at least Atari brand Steam games.

"Atari VCS"
July 2019
US$199 Onyx Edition
US$299 Collector's Edition
US$399 Tribute Edition
Atari OS, It is a Steam Machine plus with a GNU/Linux OS based on Ubuntu. While the core system might be jailed to some degree for quality control and support concerns There will be a "sandbox" part of the system for customers _and partners_ to do whatever they want (A kind of pre-installed Homebrew+Indie Channel).
Metal, plastic, and wood (real wood).
AMD Bristol Ridge Quad-Core A10-9630P (overclocked), Radeon R7, 8 Gig RAM (maybe 4), 32 GB internal flash storage, microSD, 4 x USB 3.0 (external hardrive friendly), HDMI 2.0, 4 x microphone (voice command, also gaming uses such as confirming player location), 2.4/5 GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.0
Atari Classic Joystick and Atari Modern Controller based on the Xbox One gamepad.
Steam, GOG, Twitch, Netflix, Amazon Video, Amazon Music, YouTube, Spotify, Skype, Discord, (browser capable, certainly in the sandbox)
Atari Vault (more than 100 games), Rocket League, Terraria, Basketball Classics, Borderlands 2, Broforce, Smugglecraft, Dropsy, Banner Saga, and Shadow Warrior

One of the most interesting things I have noticed is Atari's stressing full commitment to the "Linux" operating system rather than a derivative (Ouya), or reminding (or emphasizing to, or pleading to) people that their box can run other operating systems (Valve), or understating their OS (Nintendo).
