Its easy to believe by looking that this game is a clone of the Ultima series. In fact, the creators sought and obtained a license from Richard Garriott to use the 'structure and style' of the Ultima games. Due to the high quality and system of virtues introduced in Ultima IV, some fans are shocked and disappointed at knowing the officially stamped Ultima inspired Questron is not only throwback in quality and story, but also shows a blatant disregard for morality and consequences of evil behavior. The main 'hero' is free to murder merchants and townspeople without repercussion. The player can even murder the kings guards before being knighted for bravery by said king. Yet one should be aware that this game came out well over a year before Ultima IV. Questron was on the playfield with other Evil-wizard-takes-advantage-of-people-because-the-manual-says-so-now-take-advantage-of-people-so-you-can-defeat-him games of the time. Which by Garriott's own admission, included Akalabeth and Ultima I-III.
