Description
The Brown Box was created to be used with any ordinary television which people had in their homes and had six different games which could be played, there was volleyball, ping-pong, tennis, light-gun game, handball and chase game.
The Brown Box was the first multiplayer, multiprogram video game system. The Brown Box, though only a prototype, had basic features that most video games consoles still have today like two controls.
The name comes from the brown wood-grain, self-adhesive vinyl used to make the prototype look more attractive to potential investors.
Sanders licensed the Brown Box to Magnavox, which released the system as the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972.
