Official description

Starship 1™ is another fantastic Atari first. This incredibly realistic video sensation goes where no game has gone before! Suspense, speed and manoeuvring skill highlights Starship 1’s exciting play action. Realistic cockpit controls guide the starship up, down, left and right to intercept and zero in converging "laser" beams, activated by fire buttons on the controls, on approaching targets. Or manoeuvre over and around hostile plantes to avoid crashing. Players can also lever-select "fast" or "slow" speeds.

Comment

Probably the first "fly through space and shoot other ships from a cockpit viewpoint" game. Used a light yoke with a small button on the end to fire lasers and also had a control stick for different speeds. It was a timed game where the object was to shoot other ships for points.
