*The Star Trek Enterprise contemporary time-lime begins with the development of the Warp 5 Engine. Previous warp capable engines, much slower, had already been applied to commerce vessels so that there were a dozens of ships traveling established trade routes. While Enterprise is extremely early in space fairing with trade journeys lasting months to years, the series nontheless begins after the Spacefaring Age has begun. 22nd century earthlings could purchase a product from a different star system the same as a 17th century European could purchase cotton, beaver pelts, First Nations slaves, and chocolate.
