Cloud Kingdoms Millennium (Electralyte)1990Baron von Bansai has stolen Terry's precious collection of crystals, and dropped them onto 32 different kingdoms, so Terry sets off to retrieve them. Viewed from above, his challenge sees him having to progress through these worlds, collecting keys to gain access to different sections, and avoiding enemy balls and bugs by jumping them where possible. There are no 'lives' as such, but there's a strict time limit of around 400 seconds for the whole game, and death puts you back to the start of the level, with time lost as well. You get an extra 80 seconds for completing each level though.

The levels feature all manner of further hazards - there are holes in the ground to avoid falling through (some visible, some hidden), arrows which force the ball in a particular direction, slippery squares making any movement's effect exaggerated, magneted squares making it impossible to jump from, and many more. Fortunately lots of power-ups, time boosts and bonus fruits are dropped onto the levels at random intervals as well.

To complete the game you must clear 8 levels, and the structure is non-linear - initially you have a choice of 4 levels, and after completing one of those you have a choice of 4 more levels (which are different depending on which level you completed first). The third and fourth levels you take on as you go through the game are chosen from a choice of 3, the fifth and sixth from a choice of two, and only those final two levels are perscribed (although they do vary depending on which levels you've already done).

Each of the 32 worlds has its own twist - Arrow Kingdom has a large amount of arrows directing you, Ice Kingdom is especially slippery, Unseen Kingdom leaves you to work out the route for yourself (other than the holes, which are all you can see), Box Kingdom involves a lot of flying over some trapped squares to grab the keys they contain before making the main jumps onto the sections which contain crystals, and so on.***

Cyber Empires  SSI;Millennium Interactive (Silicon Knights)1992CLASH OF STEEL TITANS.

To the victor, the world. For one to five players, CYBER EMPIRES is a challenging strategy game of world conquest. And an explosive action game of battle between cybernetic juggernauts.

Each player starts off with a set amount of money and a country to control. Allocate your wealth to build a combination of capital structures for administration; fortresses for defense; and factories for constructing armies of giant cybernetic warriors. Large (but expensive) factories can build robots quickly; small, cheaper factories assemble them slowly. Choose from nine models of cyborgs, each with different size, armor, weaponry and terrain specialty.

A "Fog of War" option clouds your intelligence of enemy activities; you may want to spend some money to access spy satellites. Once you've got your country in order, it's time to deploy your army - and conquer!

All five players (human or computer-controlled) take turns plotting their moves. The computer randomly assigns who moves first.

During combat, you can slug it out in true arcade fashion, blasting enemy cyborgs with lasers, neutrino cannons, missiles and flame throwers. Or ask the computer to resolve every battle quickly and cleanly.

No matter which way you choose, you'll have a blast playing CYBER EMPIRES. After all, you get to play with money, big toys and enough power to conquer an entire world.

You'd have to be a cyborg not to.***

Diggers Millennium1993Diggers is a Lemmings-style puzzle game where you command five alien miners (from a choice of four clans) and various gadgets to dig for treasure. The game is divided into excavation areas. Each area has a set amount of money you must raise before moving into the next one. To do so, you must sell your collected treasure to the bank.

You select your "Diggers" by clicking on them with the left mouse button and making them do the desired action by right-clicking on the screen and choosing from an icon menu.

Each clan has different characteristics and stats: for example, the Grablins clan resembles fantasy dwarfs and has the fastest diggers. The Quarriors clan has the strongest miners, less likely to die in a fight with enemy diggers.***

James Pond 2: Codename RoboCod  Ocean (Millennium)1993Finished version reviewed in at least two gaming magazines (1993 June and August). But ultimately not published. Possibly because of the same game being available for Super NES at MSRP $49.99 while the announced MSRP for this NES version was $29.99 (given the expense of manufacturing NES carts compared to SNES carts, the NES was likely less profitable and would have taken sales from the SNES version). James Pond II: Codename: Robocod  Electronic Arts (Millennium Interactive)1991The most famous underwater spy in the world returns to the Sega Genesis in JAMES POND II, Codename: Robocod. It seems that the evil Dr. Maybe has returned, and he's planted several bombs in the North Pole's toy factories. Now it's up to you, as James Pond, to don your special Robosuit, which allows you to survive on land, in order to take on Dr. Maybe and his posse of henchmen. You'll have to make it through nine toy factories, facing all kinds of Maybe's soldiers, caterpillars, and bosses. As you progress through your mission, keep your eyes peeled for wing attachments, suits of armor, planes, trains, and flying tubs that will make your assignment that much easier. If you want to uphold your name as the best-gilled spy in the world, you must succeed, James.***One quite amusing plataformer, much better and comercially sucessful than it's prequel, wich was rather boring.

Basically, you control an stretching cod through lots of pretty levels.

Not only is this game better than the average plataformer, it's feature I remember more fondly is it's subtle oddity. An unlinear world, with weirdly decorated stages, and other almost unconscious stuff. Very cool to play.

James Pond³: Operation Starfish  Electronic Arts (Millennium Interactive)1993Unlike the first game of the series, that was a mission-based game, and the second one, where your character had unique abilities such as observing the whole level and growing to unlimited height, "James Pond 3" is a standard jump and run platform game. Pond can run very quickly (by holding down the A button) through large levels, which often contain steep mountain sides and other tricky areas. Once again, he has to oppose the evil scientist Maybe and his minions.***
