After Burner Tengen1989The F-14 Thundercat. It's the fastest, meanest set of wings ever to slice through the air. And you're flying it!
The action in this supercharged game is so intense, the graphics so real, you'll sweat bullets as bogeys fill the skies. Get vertigo from going vertical. The rush you feel is from pulling heavy G's as you try to evade lightning fast missiles and tracers. Feel your adrenaline pumping as your radar locks onto multiple targets and your Sidewinders blow them out of the sky.
When you feel the need for speed, go supersonic with After Burner!***This should not be confused with the JP Sunsoft version of After Burner / After Burner II. Both ports were done independently.

Airball RetroZone;Tengen (Novatrade)2007Well, I can't say that games which use the typical "Knight Lore"-style gameplay are something that make me get excited. They tend to get confusing and not worthwhile to play nowadays. But Airball is one of the better clones with rather fast and fluent gameplay and a nice background tune. There are three difficulty levels. So there is the right option for every kind of player. I appreciate that this game made it to a kind of official release in 2007.***[SIC]
[b]Can you outwit the wizard before he deflates your existance?[/b]

"Now you are really in trouble," said the evil wizard Navi, "for I am turning you into a ball and sending you into my dungeon with over 250 rooms! If that sounds easy I'm telling you it's not, because you have a fatal slow leak and you must find a room with a pump or you will surely die! Do not pump yourself up too much or you will explode in a rubbery mess."

Explore the wizard's 3D isometric dungeon through 3 difficulty levels. Each level the items are rearranged and new challenges are added. The printed manual includes some Game Genie codes to make your quest easier.

Much more than a reproduction, this original game cartridge is built using all new parts. No donor carts were harmed in the making of this game.

Alien Syndrome  Sunsoft;Tengen (Sanritsu)1988The extra-terrestrials in this game are anything but friendly. They're slimy monsters that are holding space colonists captive aboard seven alien starships.

This is essentially American football with a few minor alterations. The players are replaced robots and the ball is replaced with a time bomb. Classic football tactics and plays burn up the field in a game too dangerous for referees. Penalties are passé! Your linemen are cyborg battering rams who only leave the game when their heads blow off!

Choose from over 100 plays to battle the charging defense. Apply Turbo Boost to push your offense to the limit. Then block a Quarterback sneak with one of 12 defensive formations. Or just plain blitz!

Gauntlet Tengen;Gradiente (Tengen)1988Gauntlet is a classic, I liked to play it on my old C64. The NES features 100 levels and can be played with two players simultaneously. So what could possibly go wrong? Well the difficulty level for instance. It's incredibly hard bordering on unplayable hard. When there are lots of enemies on screen the action slows down considerably. Well I must admit that I did kind of expect it due to the capabilites of the NES and the sheer number of enemies that are on screen at the same time. Nevertheless while it might have been considered a nice game back in the day I was a bit disappointed with this version.***
[63]***The arcade sensation comes home. This is it. The game everybody's been waiting for, Gauntlet, the most successful arcade game of all time has come home. And it brings with it all the characters, dungeons, traps, treasures, and excitement you loved in the arcades.***Not the best conversion (and why is the Elf brown?!??!)
[unknown]***1 player or 2 players simultaneous.

Buyers beware of the official description. This conversion is different from the coin-op. No 4-player feature obviously (no adaptor yet existed for the NES). The Dungeon Master's voiceis not present. Gameplay gains a story, world map, and ability upgrades. 99 stages are divided into Castle, Forest, Caverns, Water, and Volcano regions. There are additional bonus treasure rooms. 8 additional clue rooms have clue boxes that are [i]all[/i] needed to gain access to the boss room (room 100). There are also push-walls for gaining access to secrets. Gathering 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 treasures will result in ability upgrades. Collecting 2000 treasures apperently breaks the password feature (poorly implimented adaptive difficulty or bug?) by giving unusable passwords.

Hard Drivin' Tengen1990Yup, Mark Morris made the NES do a fully 3D environment! (well, a really, really good imitation of one atleast)

Mark Morris was an independent contractor for Tengen, not a regular employee. He applied to the coin-op division and was given 'consumer' projects as a sort of paid audition. He never did get to make coin-op games for Tengen.

To achieve the 3D environment, 'frames' were captured from the Atari ST version and converted to NES data. A series of frames were grouped as a stunt; a turn, or a loop, a jump where a 'movie' that the player could pan left, right, up and down while it played as a speed consistent with the current speed of the simulated car. Essentially, the programmer avoided having to calculate, in real-time, a fully 3D environment on the NES by loading small pre-rendering a sections of it at a time.
[Zerothis]
NESlabelimageminimize
Hard Drivin' Domark;Tengen1989The Atari ST version of Hard Drivin' was one of actual ports of the game. Whereas other systems got a conversion consisting of what amounted to pre-rendered polygon movies that provided a surprisingly convincing illusion of a fully 3D environment, the Atari ST version actually renders a 3D polygon environment like the original coin-op did.***

Ms. Pac-Man Tengen (Innerprise Software)1991All of the action and fun of the first feminist arcade game comes to the Sega Genesis in MS. PAC-MAN. You take control of a yellow disc adorned with lipstick and a pink bow. The goal is to guide the disc around a maze and eat all the dots. However, there are four ghosts chasing you around the maze. As a stroke of luck, there are power pellets located in each corner of the maze. When the power pellets are eaten, all of the ghosts turn blue, and they can be eaten. Occasionally, fruit will float into the maze and can also be munched for extra points. If your friends want to play along, there is an Alternating Two-Player mode as well as a Two-Player Simultaneous mode. Play as the first female arcade hero in MS. PAC-MAN.***

Ms. Pac-Man Tengen1990Ms. Pac-Man's here, and she's totally liberated! She gets to run around in 36 unique, mind-boggling mazes - some small enough to fit on one screen; some so big you'll have to scroll around; and some are straight out of the arcades!
Even the fruits bounce around, making it that much tougher to get bonus points.
Choose Easy, Normal, Hard or Crazy speeds. Whether you're a beginner or expert, Ms. Pac-Man will have you running ragged. There's even a Pac Booster button to really let her shake those pesky ghosts.
Play Ms. Pac-Man by yourself or take turns with a friend. Better yet, two can play at the same time - one as the divine Ms. Pac-Man; the other, as the original Pac-Man!***I know there is a Japanese Famicom version of Ms. Pac-Man. And it was released prior to this Namco version developed by Now Productions. AND it was developed directly by Namco (Namcot). I've seen it in those X-in-1 TV consoles (Famicom clone systems). Both legitimate versions that take advantage of some irregularities in Japanese copyright filing and illegal versions. There are also Brazilian and Australian releases that are probably based on the Tengen version but could also be yet another version of Ms. Pac-Man. And there's Hong Kong, Chinese, and Korean version that may be legitimate and based on one of these. However, there is a Famicom Disk System version that may be the basis for all of these***This is Tengen's implementation of Ms.Pac-Man released in the USA. Namco would later release [game=#167632]another implementation[/game] that differers from this one and was developed by a different company. Tengen's version was not licensed by Nintendo and did not carry the 'Nintendo's seal of $10 has been added to the price of this cart'. However, Atari Games (which is also Tengen), did hold the rights to produce Pac-Man games for home systems in the USA at the time; This is a perfectly legitimate cart as far as Tengen's preexisting legal agreement with Namco. Tengen's version has many game variations. 1 Player, 2 Player Alternating, 2 Player Simultaneous Competitive, 2 Player Simultaneous Cooperative (Pac-Man & Ms. Pac-Man). Arcade, mini, big, or strange maze sets. Optional pac-boost (super fast Pac-Man). Large scrolling mazes. 4 levels of difficulty. Namco's version did not have these features, did have Nintendo's seal, cost more, and was release over 3 years later.

[27]***Pac-Man is a classic and it was just a matter of time until it saw a release on the Famicom/NES system. Generally the port is well done, but the gameplay of Pac-Man didn't get fresher over the years.***Move Pac-Man through the maze, avoiding ghosts and eating all the Pac-Dots. Beware, each of the ghosts behave differently. When Pac-Man chomps a Power Pellet, he becomes invincible and is able to eat the blue ghosts. The more ghosts Pac-Man eats in a row, the higher the score. Don't forget to eat the bonus fruit too. Released in 1980, Pac-Man is the most well-known video game on Earth and is also commonly acknowledged as one of the most successful coin-operated games in history. Enjoy this masterpiece of gaming history today.***Tengen published a licensed version of this game in North America. After some disagreements with Nintendo, they published an 'unlicensed' version that did not contain Nintendo's seal of '$10 has been added to the cost of this cart'. After Tengen was court ordered to temporarily stop selling unlicensed NES games; Namco published yet a third version of this game. Namco's version was licensed (and cost more). Also, Tengen and Namco both originated with the old Atari company. They are separate companies, but Tengen and Namco continued to be business partners for many products.
