Blaster Master: Enemy Below  Sunsoft (SunSoft)2000Piloting the mighty SOPHIA tank, you'll progress through a massive subterranean world with two unique gameplay modes. The first type is a side-scrolling Blast-A-Thon, where your perspective is from the inside of the SOPHIA tank. You'll have to use equal measures of timing with your trigger finger, as there is nearly as much jumping as there is shooting. The second type of gameplay puts you on foot. To explore many of the underground caves, you'll have to leave the relatively safe confines of the SOPHIA to enter overhead-action stages, where you can uncover special weapons and abilities for the tank that will unlock even more areas to explore. Highly-detailed graphics, coupled with smooth animation, ensure a high-quality graphical experience. GBClabelimagesubject

Miracle Ropit's Adventure in 2100  King Records (Micronics)1987Despite being a Japanese market exclusive, all of the in-game text is in English.***"Miracle Ropit" is a really bad platform game. The developers tried to bring variety into the game, with quite different locations, some "puzzles" and levels that run vertically. However the final product feels very very buggy, badly animated and difficult. And particularly bad design decisions like the barriers at the end of the first stage, which can only be opened by firing and continuously hop from a certain stone to another stone. First I thought the game must be based on some manga or anime but I couldn't find evidence that this is really the case. NESlabelimageminimize

SOMA Frictional Games2015This is a sci-fi horror game from the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It is an unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human. The radio is dead, food is running out, and the machines have started to think they are people. Underwater facility PATHOS-II has suffered an intolerable isolation and we’re going to have to make some tough decisions. What can be done? What makes sense? What is left to fight for? Enter the world of SOMA and face horrors buried deep beneath the ocean waves. Delve through locked terminals and secret documents to uncover the truth behind the chaos. Seek out the last remaining inhabitants and take part in the events that will ultimately shape the fate of the station. But be careful, danger lurks in every corner: corrupted humans, twisted creatures, insane robots, and even an inscrutable omnipresent A.I. You will need to figure out how to deal with each one of them. Just remember there’s no fighting back, either you outsmart your enemies or you get ready to run. In Dec/2017, a Safe Mode option was added for players not to get attacked by monsters as the most popular fan mod was a similar "Wuss Mode".***

[12]***
Several of the monsters operate via odd sensory system where they account for Sound for noticing you in places where they don't have line of sight to, but their primary method of actually detecting is You detecting them. In effect, you can avoid them by going into a corner where they won't likely walk into, and turning to stare at the wall. It doesn't matter if you're in plain sight, because it's Your sight that matters. It's like they're remotely jacking in o your vision. You can even just happily walk past them as long as you don't look at them At All. This works only on early monsters, the later ones have their faculties properly attached.

Sound cues – required because you're not allowed to actually Look at the monsters much, but you have to judge their position and intentions based on the sounds they make.
[37]***Welcome to the year 2100...
And to the only game in town: Speedball 2. The original game - which evolved from a barbaric street fracas - was phased out five years ago in 2095 due to widespread corruption. Now, with the creation of the Speedball Players' Association and the newly formed 16-team World Speedball League, Speedball 2 preserves the outrageous violence of the original game - the supreme factor of its universal appeal - in a radical 22nd-century arene setting where you can snap up extra points and power-charged weaponry.

Your team, Brutal Deluxe, is the League's doormat - sitting at the bottom of the WSL's Division 2. But now you're in charge - and an entire team's future rests in your hands...

[37]***The port of this fantastic game from Amiga to ST didn't really lose anything in terms of gameplay, but suffered in the sound and graphics department. Developed to work on the standard ST (not the STe) it lacked sampled stereo sound and had sligtly lower colour resolution graphics. Even so, the game is still great fun to play and vastly enjoyable.
