Ace Allied Leisure1976"go ahead...

Ace pits two biplane pilots in head-to-head air combat, in a 2-player only game. Players just need to fly around and shoot down the opponent before he gets the player. There are 2 points awarded for hitting the enemy with the gun, and 1 point to the opponent if the player crash.

Alley Rally Exidy1976ALLEY RALLY pits the player against the clock and four erratic "drone" cars. The drone cars drive a pseudo-random pattern, change directions, and even skid into the side of the track occasionally. Since they also change speed during all this, it becomes very difficult to drive around the track successfully without crashing into a drone car.

OBJECT OF THE GAME:
The object of the game is quite simple. Drive around the track as long and as fast as you can without crashing into a drone car. You can drive either direction to make points, and you get a point each time you drive 1/4 of the way around the track.

NORMAL OPERATION:
You drive one of two player cars. If you play a one player game, you drive the bright car which appears on the left side of the track, and you drive from the left side steering wheel. A two-player game adds a darker colored car which appears on the right side of the track, and is driven from the right side steering wheel.
The game is started only after the start button is depressed and the cars may move only after the foot pedal is depressed and the shift lever is in the LOW GEAR position.
When you crash into a drone car, the side of the track, or the other player's car and you are in HIGH GEAR, your car will stop moving until you return the shift lever to the LOW GEAR position. When you crash into a drone car and you are still in LOW GEAR your car will continue moving with only a slight hesitation. LOW GEAR, however, is slower and you cannot make points very rapidly unless you shift into HIGH GEAR as soon as possible.
If, while you are driving in HIGH GEAR, you lift your foot completely off the foot pedal, you must again shift into LOW GEAR in order to start your car moving again.
When a quarter is inserted, one player is enabled. Add a second quarter and the second player is also enabled. When a player is enabled the game counter will set to 99, ready to count down, and the score counters will set to 00, ready to count up. When the game is started the game counter counts down to 00 and the game ends.
Sound for the cars begins when the quarter is inserted, and ends when the game is over.

Anti Aircraft  Atari1975Atari's Anti-Aircraft puts you and a friend behind a pair anti-aircraft guns. Bomber planes appear from multiple directions at random. They can appear alone or in pairs. Your goal is to shoot down more bombers than the other player within the set time limit. Use your three buttons -- up, down and fire -- to aim at and gun down the enemy planes. The up and down buttons tilt your gun to predetermined positions rather than letting you make precise movements. While the game is run using no CPUs and the PCB is composed entirely of discrete circuitry, the sprites are stored in ROM.***You’re on red alert! Forward observers have plotted enemy aircraft coming into range... now! You have 3 firing position, 3 chances, but you have to be quick. Those planes are really moving. You press the firing button. Missed! You change firing position, shoot again. The enemy plane blows up. You get set for the next attack. You command your own gun crew. You’re there, in the thick of the fighting. Within operator-adjustable game time you have to shoot down more aircraft than the "enemy" gunner to win the battle. Digital scoring for each gun lets you keep track of hits.
Your timing and skill are on the line every second as you try to zero in time after time and blast the enemy out of the sky. Heavy artillery. ANTI-AIRCRAFT is designed for heavy action. Durastress™ tested solid state circuits and 23" monitor, battle-tested plywood construction and easy accessibility for maintenance means ANTI-AIRCRAFT is always combat-ready. Heavy profits. Your players will want to test their shooting skills time after time. New illuminated attraction panel, side panel graphics and low profile design make ANTI-AIRCRAFT a natural traffic builder and income producer in any location.

Asteroid Bally Midway (Midway)1973"A deep-space TV thriller from
Midway"***Space Race is an arcade game developed by Atari, Inc. and released on July 16, 1973. It was the second game by the company, after Pong (1972), which marked the beginning of the commercial video game industry. In the game, two players each control a rocket ship, with the goal of being the first to move their ship from the bottom of the screen to the top. Along the way are asteroids, which the players must avoid. Space Race was the first racing arcade video game and the first game with a goal of crossing the screen while avoiding obstacles. Development of Space Race began in Summer 1972 under the name Asteroid by Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell, based on ideas by him and co-founder Ted Dabney. The final design was done by Dabney, possibly with assistance by Bushnell and Pong designer Allan Alcorn. The game was planned to be quick to create to fulfill an earlier contract with Midway Manufacturing. The engineering and prototyping was done by Alcorn; after it was completed and the design given to Midway to be released as Asteroid, Atari produced its own nearly identical version as Space Race. Fifty Space Race cabinets were produced using a fiberglass design by George Faraco before the rest of the production was switched to a cheaper standard cabinet. Space Race was not commercially successful; Bushnell has stated that it was much less popular than Pong. Midway held that the release of Space Race violated Atari's contract with them for Asteroid, and the companies agreed for Atari to forfeit royalty payments for the game

Astrohockey is a Pong variant with four different game modes: The basic mode has two players bounce the ball around the screen with their paddles trying to hit the opposing goal. Another mode adds a variation that makes the ball change speed and direction at the center line. The other two game modes are identical to the first two, but allow one player to play against the machine.

Attack Exidy (Exidy;Taito)1977Attack is a 2-player asymmetrical duel type game with one player taking the role of destroyer, and the other the role of airplane. The destroyer is bound to the sea at the bottom of the screen, can move left and right, and fire diagonally. The airplane is more maneuverable and capable of flying in eight directions, but can only fire forward. Either player will score one point when destroying the other player, and the destroyed player will respawn from either the right or left side of the screen. The machine allows the operator to select from multiple time limits per credit. Arcadelabelimagesubject
Attack Taito1976Attack is a 2-player competitive shooting gallery. Both players have a mounted machinegun with swivel aiming. Their goal is to destroy as many passing trucks (worth 10 points each) as possible within the 90 seconds of one credit. If either player scores 300 points an additional 90 seconds of playtime will be added. Trucks can drive onto the screen from both sides of the screen, and trucks farther away are smaller and harder to hit.

This is possibly the very first video game to employ parallax scrolling, where layers of the playfield scroll by at different distances and speeds.

The guns were nicely detailed and were a precursor to the types of games that are seen in modern arcade games.

This was also the first instance where Taito placed the monitor in the bottom of the cabinet and by using an angled mirror, created an illusion of depth.

The player flies forward and can move the jet with a joystick. The enemies enter the screen from the top along with a scrolling layer of clouds. Barricade  Ramtek;Elcon Industries (Ramtek)1977Barricade is an early example of a light cycle game for arcades. Barricade is intended for either two or four players. Each player controls an ever growing wall made up of individual small squares. These walls are growing on a fixed playfield of limited size, therefore room will eventually run out for these growing walls. So the goal of the game is to win a round by forcing the other players wall to collide into themselves or another barrier.

The operator of the arcade machine can set the number of rounds it takes to win (from one to seven) and set how fast or slow the speed at which the walls grow (there are seven different speed options).

Originally known as "Barricade", the game was a clone of Gremlin's popular "Blockade". After Gremlin took Ramtek to court, they agreed to rename the game Brickyard, which was a lot less similar to "Blockade".

Bigfoot Bonkers Meadows Games1976Bigfoot Bonkers is a variation on the 'surround your opponent' style of game. In this game, players take the role of mice in a small playfield with a few bigfoot feet that must be avoided in addition to the walls.

The game is 2-player only, and both players are in a survival match to see who can avoid crashing longest. As players move about the playfield, they leave a trail behind. Hitting any part of the trails, or the bigfoot feet, causes a player to lose that round and gives one point to their opponent. First one to six wins the game.

Biplane Fun Games1975This game was an Atari design, one of two (or three) taken from the company by former marketing and engineering employees, who then formed the company Fun Games. When Fun Games released direct copies of other Atari games, Atari sued the company and it was shut down shortly afterwards.

The only difference between this game and Jet Fighter (the game that the design was taken from) is that the jets were changed to biplanes.***Play consists of a black and a white biplane that is steered like a tank. The object was to shoot the other player without crashing into either the ground or the anti-aircraft fire at the top of the screen.

The game was controlled by two joysticks, the right one for up or down and the left one to control speed. If insufficient speed was used during takeoff, the plane would stall and crash.

Bullet Mark  Sega1975Bullet Mark is a 1975 discrete logic game by Sega with twin Tommy Guns. The guns have a recoil effect and can be fired as a single shot or in a short burst. Four series of targets appear sequentially on an oversized TV screen: balloons (worth 7 points), tanks (15 points), pirates (30 points) and aircraft (45 points). A perfect score is 979. Game time is adjustable from 60 to 140 seconds. When played as a two-player game, a score of 800 (adjustable to 600 depending on the operator) by either player automatically extends the game into an additional balloon series.***Four series of targets appear sequentially on an oversized TV screen...balloons, tanks, pirates and jet aircrift. The easiest of the targets to hit are the balloons which are assigned a 7 points rating, followed by the tanks at 15 points, the pirates at 30 points and the jet aircraft at 45 points. For each hit, these points are recorded on a highly visible digital read out; for each miss however, 1 to 3 points (depending upon the target series) is subtracted from the player’s score. Cannonball Atari1976There is controversy whether this video game existed in many sources, but it exists, it is very difficult to find it. There are recreated versions on the Internet, but as for the Original Arcade, I was able to see it in Santiago de Chile once.***Cannonball was Owen Rubin's first game at Atari. It is not known for sure if this game was ever produced, as there is no documentation or flyers of the game that have surfaced. Owen Rubin seems to think that maybe it WAS produced; however, he is unsure.

Owen wrote Cannonball while sitting in his small office at a Model 33 teletype connected to a Motorola MicBug 6800 processor, both of which were connected to simple videogame hardware. He hand-assembled the entire program--it was only 2K, but still took several months--including self-test, saving the code on punched paper tape. When his boss reviewed the game and asked for code listings, Owen said, 'What listings?' It turns out that Owen didn't know about the two computer operators, who took the listings that the designers/programmers wrote up, typed them into the PDP-1 computers, ran them to make sure they were error-free, then return a paper tape to the designer.

The ball will keep going in the direction of its shot until it ricochets off the sides or top of the screen and returns back to the bottom of the screen where the player either hits it back up into the field of dots or misses the falling ball and loses a ball. Players are given a total of three or five balls depending on the setting. The goal of the game is to clear all of the dots and get a clean sweep.***"First one or two player video game
