Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars | Konami | 2001 | Insultingly easy SRPG. Leave this one for the kiddies. The battles get redundant very fast and since all you do in this game is fight, it becomes a problem. The story *YAWN* basically follows the classic mecha-genre storyline: 1) Boy finds robot. 2) Boy is mysteriously able to pilot robot. 3) Boy kicks ass with robot and saves a 'mysterious' girl. Xenosaga I & II | Namco (Monolith Soft) | 2006 | Working title: Xenosaga DS Includes major changes to the storyline and gameplay.***The first two prequels to the legendary RPG [[game:Xenogears]] (PS1). They were originally released as separate titles for the PS2. [cjlee001] | Nintendo DS | labelimagesubject |
Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra | Namco (Monolith Soft) | 2006 | Also sprach Zarathustra translates to Thus spoke Zarathustra, actually the name of a book by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche.***A year has passed since Xenosaga II. Shion has resigned her post at Vector Industries after realizing that the company is deeply connected to the cause of the Gnosis phenomenon. She has thus joined Scientia, an underground organization, in order to unveil Vector's true objectives. The development of KOS-MOS is to be cancelled, and a mysterious android, T-elos appears to be taking KOS-MOS' place. Shadows of suspicion and conspiracy surround T-elos. Uncover the future of mankind in this much-anticipated conclusion to the Xenosaga trilogy.***The story takes place one year after Xenosaga II, a mystery android T-Eleos will show up; this time the execution of the battles will be a lot faster; and there will be new deadblow techniques. | PS2 | labelimagesubject |
Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Böse | Namco (Monolith Soft) | 2004 | Jenseits von Gut und Böse translates to Beyond Good & Evil, actually the name of a book by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche.***Devastate your opponents with innovative cooperative combat techniques, refined boost systems and a unique zone attack/zone break mechanic. Engage your enemies with larger, more powerful mechs, now featuring their own independent, tactical battle system. Customize your party with a vast array of power-ups, advanced attacks and over 100 different skills. Challenge more than 30 side quests for hours of action-packed adventure. Features: * An extensive experience system features over 100 different skills to customize characters to the players preference. * A new and improved complex battle system utilizes team combination attacks, a refined boost system, double team attacks and a zone attack/break system. The turn-based battle engine requires even more strategy and provides a deeper challenge. * Shion, KOS-MOS and other favorite EPISODE I characters return with more mature, refined character designs and all new mechs. * Hours of dazzling cinematics are complemented by high quality English voice acting.Complex philosophical themes add depth to an already sophisticated, dramatic storyline that could stand on its own as an intricately woven masterpiece. | PS2 | labelimagesubject |
Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht | Namco (Monolith Soft) | 2002 | Der Wille zur Macht translates to The will to power, actually the name of a book by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (although published after his death by his sister,Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, after heavy editing, twisting Friedrich's ideas).***Xenogears was one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Imagine my excitement when I found out that they were making a prequel! When I finally played Xenosaga... well... it was kind of like being in Purgatory (or at least my image of it)--it's not so bad, not good, but not bad. Xenosaga is kind of like watching (yes watching) a 'playable' movie. The story gets needlessly complicated and deviant, I wasn't even sure what they were talking about half the time. Lets just say I won't be playing--I mean watching--Xenosaga Episodes II & III when they're released. [cjlee001] | PS2 | labelimageminimize |

X³: Terran Conflict | Deep Silver (Egosoft) | 2008 | As a expansion/remake of X3: Reunion, improves a lot its interface and controls (now its a little complex but very user-friendly) and adds a few interesting campaigns (the previous game was heavily war-oriented in gameplay) Also, the graphics are nicer. Nevertheless, it still features clunky message and mission systems, making it only a little better than the original game. 4 of 10***X³: Terran Conflict is a brand new, stand-alone game set in the universe of X³. It is the culmination of the X trilogy, with a grand finale that takes us all the way back to Earth's own solar system. Gamers can take on the roles of different characters in the X universe, or of a Terran military pilot, and experience a multitude of stories in the largest X universe ever featured - for X³: Terran Conflict will offer more missions than any other X game before. Meanwhile, X³: Terran Conflict will pose questions such as: How has Earth changed in all these years? And how will relations between Earth and its counterparts in the X universe develop? [Egosoft]***Announced on 2008-02-03. | Windows | labelimagesubject |
X³: Reunion | Deep Silver (Egosoft) | 2005 | A game about the vastness of the space in a very big universe filled with all kinds of stuff (as ships, stations, asteroids...) and comprising a lot of different ways to play the game (militar, merchant, raider, police, transporter, salvager...) Its complexity and freedom are almost infinite, and has very clever features as speeding the time (for long travels) and very well-crafted reputation and market systems. But there are 3 big issues with the game: -The interface and controls are straight horrendous, forcing to employ the auto-pilot more than it should. -The mission panel is very spartan and doesn´t records any indication of a possible mission (only points at already signed contracts, not featuring indications recieved in messages) -Theres only 1 message log (important and worth-saving messages merge with a gigantic clutter of mundane conversations and tips) These 3 problems make the in-game progress very difficult and immensely slow, and the game very boring/frustrating to play. 3 of 10***Greatest flaw in this that I see is that there's no task tracker. You're forced to remember and make notes yourself of what you agree to do and what others tell you to do, though you can review the message log as you like, it's hardly intuitive. This is especially bad considering the game's a sandbox.***Latest version: 2.5 (as of 2007)***Minimum: * Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 or XP * 1.7 GHz Pentium IV CPU * 512 MB RAM * 128 MB VRAM * 2 GB HD space Recommended: * 2.4 GHz Pentium IV CPU * 1 GB RAM * 256 MB VRAM | Windows | labelimageminimize |

X³: Albion Prelude | Egosoft | 2011 | As the expansion of X3: Terran Conflict, it improves the merge between war, market and diplomatic systems, making factions weaker if its economy becomes stagnant or making easier to get the help of the enemy of your enemy, and many other new ways to interact with the different species. Also includes a lot of new items, ships, etc... Sadly, the game is still very slow and frustrating because not only the mission system (almost the same, but with more chained missions that "hide" this radical flaw), but because the uncareness of the game for the player when you finish the tutorial (its difficult to encounter feasible missions or even something relevant to do) 4 of 10***X3: Albion Prelude is the latest game in the X3 space game series. X Rebirth | Deep Silver (Egosoft) | 2013 | At least they changed the mission panel! And the messages have tags! :D Now its a very playable game, easier to control, with an average difficult curve (not as stepped as previous games), and even prettier than before (specially planets, that feel enormous and look mesmerizing) Also, space highways and station/ship interiors are some of the new neat additions that makes it feel alive.
