We're going to put you closer to the main attractions than ever before possible. Jurassic Park | Sega (Blue Sky) | 1993 | ***The Sega Genesis game based on the Jurassic Park movie/book differs from the games made by Ocean for other platforms. Basically, Sega's Jurassic Park is a side-scrolling action game. You jump from platform to platform, pick up weapons and health items, and try to make it to the end of the level with all your lives intact. This version of Jurassic Park does feature an interesting twist, however. You can play it either as Dr. Grant, or as a Velociraptor. The story and level design changes based on which character you use.***While the game's plot differs greatly from the movie, it does share some affinity with the book.*** [29]*** [27]*** [26]***devouring - only as a raptor charged jump - only as raptor, limited to vertical jumps and not really charging. player crouches before jumping to jump much higher than normal.***The game has two stories, one of which deviates completely from the story of the movie. You either play as Grant attempting to escape the island and survive the dinos, or as a raptor hunting Grant. | Mega Drive | labelimagesubject |
Jurassic Park | Sega | 1993 | One of many games based on the 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park, the version for Sega's 8-bit systems combines side-scrolling shooting action and platforming levels. In each of the five stages of the game, one escaped dinosaur species must be recaptured. Each level begins with a side-scrolling driving section. Dinosaurs attack the car and must be fend off by firing at them with a crosshair. If the player survives long enough, a boss battle against an especially powerful dinosaur follows. After the completion of the driving section the level continues with a platform section. The player must jump, duck and climb to survive moving lifts, floors that will crumble under his feet, environmental hazards like acid drops, steam leaks or giant boulders and more. Dinosaurs will of course also stand in the way, but can be defeated by using several weapons: a rifle, a grenade launcher and hand grenades. Navigating the often maze-like levels will lead to the dinosaur that must be captured and a corresponding boss fight. The first four levels (featuring a Velociraptor, Pteranodon, Triceratops and Brachiosaurus) can be tackled in any order, but the final level, featuring the Tyrannosaurus Rex, is only unlocked when the others have been completed.***"Look Grant, you've got to help us. With the computer security system out of commission, there's no telling how many dinosaurs have escaped and are running around free. We have to recapture them or Jurassic Park won't open on schedule. Not to mention the fact that with these dangerous animals out there we have no way of getting off the island alive!" | Master System | labelimagesubject |

Anthropologist Sarah Harding has led a small group of conservationists to the island to study the dinosaurs in their natural habitat. But Roland Tembo has also sent a team intent on hunting and returning the dinosaurs to the mainland for commercial purposes. Embark on an adventure through Site B as you try to reach a radiophone so you can call a helicopter. But your journey won't be easy, as along the way you'll run into fierce, menacing dinosaurs that are just trying to eat you. Featuring 3D graphics, music straight out of the movie, and fast gameplay, JURASSIC PARK is back ... with bite!***1998 Special Edition; the only difference is slightly adjusted controls (minor improvements for jumping and attacking, but supposedly this was too small change to help) | PS | labelimagesubject |
Trespasser | Electronic Arts (DreamWorks Interactive) | 1998 | aim deadzone - this is essentially a side effect of the control system where you control the arm instead of any single item held in it like in other games. limited capacity - you only have space for one item (any item, regardless of type or size) in your "inventory" and whatever is held in your hand at the moment. Rather silly in the way that a keycard or floppy disk in your pocket removes the possibility of carrying a rifle or pistol in your belt or back. self awareness - border case, your legs are never seen, only the chest (which contains the "health display") and possibly a weapon peeking from your belt. physics - besides the very basic puzzles based on them, the game practically revolves around the physics and the unusual control system used to interact with it. The movement of the dinos looks like it attempts to (primitively) simulate real movement rather than using frames like usual, this usually gives very strange looking walking animation for them as well as making them stumble occasionally (which although funny, is very poor representation of the agility most of these creatures possessed). Other cases come with the items you hold in your hand, usually being knocked off by the slightest force, and sometimes inadvertently by the dinos when they attack you (although more often they just brush the weapon aside). This may appear intentional, but it's likely accidental from their part. gameplayinn - Ragdoll physics, the first game to use them. Although this received a negative response, ragdoll physics have become an integral part of modern games. | Windows | labelimageminimize |

Dinosaurs will die after a while if either is missing for too long. Possibly a factor with the tourists as well, but only to keep them at the park longer. npc anxiety/fear — seen if a dinosaur breaks free from their containment area (this affects the tourists) or if two different dinosaurs (specifically a carnivore and herbivore or large carnivore with smaller carnivore) are forced to be too close to each other. The dinosaurs may try to avoid the carnivore so much that they can't stave their hunger and eventually starve to death unless the carnivore ends up killing them (is that even possible here? didn't witness it, but hypothetically it could happen). To prevent this, you can either provide separate holding areas for the dinos or large enough single area for them to prowl so they can keep their distance naturally. The latter is obviously much harder set up and maintain, but the game does provide sufficient mechanisms to attempt it.***Latest version: retail. | Windows | labelimageminimize |
